Well, since all the horses are dead and we haven't got a wild and crazy theory in ages, I thought to throw a little one here. So, here it goes.

Reasons why Hodor is Frey:

1) His real name is Valder.
2)Old Nan is about the same age as original Valder Frey. She is Hodor's grand-grandma.

Valder Frey was young once. Maybe he wasn't as rotten before. Old Nan was young once. It might be possible that young lordling fell in love with fair maid.

Let the chopping of sneezing trees commence!

Cool, so now Bran can warg into Hodor, walk into Walder Freys presence, slice his head off with a long sword and sew a snake where his head was, for killing Rob and his Mom.

I guess thats why the say "cocaine is a hellava drug!" :D

I hate to disagree with a crackpot theory, but the only thing this really has going for it is that Hodor's real name is Walder :( old Nan and The Late Lord Frey are probably around the same age, although age differences have never been a deterrent to Walder sowing some wild (or tame) oats.

Assuming that the theory is true, how would you imagine it might impact the storyline?

I am prepared to consider any such theories and this one could stand up, but exactly what The Imp said: why would this matter? Bran and Hodor are so dar away from the Twins that one wonders if they will ever make it back to this side of the Wall.

But, it would be neat little curveball that GRRM could throw at us with some twist of the plot.

100th post! :)

I suppose this would be a good time to say thanks to everyone on these threads and extend my best wishes to all (I'd like to name names but I'd invariably miss a few and that wouldn't be fair). Besides, everyone means everyone.

As to Hodor - as Imp pointed out and TK iterated, it's difficult to see how this would play into the story. I seem to recall this being discussed somewhere, with someone else pointing out Walder's son, aka the simpleton Jinglebell, as a possible clue.

So here's my idea. Martin, of course, knows that the best way to endear a character to the reader is to make them suffer, as evidenced by, well, just about everyone. So undead-Catelyn catches wind of Hodor's ancestry (somehow) and has him executed. The thing is, Bran is warging with Hodor at the time of his death, leaving Bran in a painfully tragic paraplegic, vegetative state (which should please Vizion to no end). It's tough to say where Bran goes from there if I'm honest, but boy will he be endeared.

Either that or Hodor will end up running the Twins and his grand story arc will culminate in the addition of another word to his vocabulary, "Lord Hodor! Lord Hodor!"

That's priceless, and I say that with zero sarcasm :)

I love implications if that was true. Children and grand-children of the first son go before second son... So, when Little Valder and Big Valder mock Hodor, they actually mock the future lord of the Twins. And they mock someone named Valder as well.

That is, of course, if Late Lord Frey secretly married Old Nan (which, if Tyrion's first marriage is to be believed, is really easy to do).

According to Ashar (The Wilding with Rikkon) Hodor had to have Giant blood in him due to his hairy body and low intellegence and obvious height. (not to mention his big and long ,<ahem> "member" that was known to rip human woman apart during intimate mating)

Mayhaps his mother died at birth along with Jon and Tyrions mothers. (Are we getting a possible third head of the dragon?)

I wonder if there were any clues that the baby Walder Frey in "The Hedge Knight" (who as he and Maester Aemon were the only living people that we know of, as of A Game of Thrones) that would let us know that he was going to be a grumpy ole man in which he has become.

Ok, that's about as much blood i could squeeze out of that turnip :D

I don't remember reading about giants at all! This worries me! More and more I am thinking a reread will be in order before ADWD.

Yes, Osha, the wildling we first meet in AGOT does say Hodor likely has some giant's blood in him and the evidence was hanging between his legs.

There's got to be some story reason that Bran the paraplegic boy is slowly warging into a mini giant!

It seems too carefully set up to waste. What is Bran/Hodor's destiny?

That would be an interesting matchup!

Somehow, I thought the hound would get Gregor, one day!

If I am not mistaken, he is seen during "The Mystery Knight", described as a snot nosed brat of four.

I think the only way this would work is if Walder is the son of Old Nan's ******* by Frey. Hodor has to have a giant mother for old nan to be his grandma, and Frey has outlived all his wives (which would mean Nan would need to be dead). I still don't see why it'd matter, but it could just be a fun bit of extra, i suppose. There are so many details in ASOIAF, that I doubt every single solitary one of them is absolutely, 100% integral to the plot.
