Hi Guys New to this forum, in fact any SF forums. IMB is the only SF I read (read em all more than once) and think it about time I broadened my horizons, can anyone reccommend some other authors who are on a par with IMB particularly on the tech level? or do I ask too much? Thanks in advance

Which authors can compare to Iain Banks? Which other SF books do you (Banks's fan) like?

A friend lent me this one. Is it any good? I stopped reading Surface Detail but intend to get back to it. I just thought it was trying to tell a story that doesn't move forward and jumps around a lot.

I am almost up to date with all Culture works (I am about 100 pages into Surface Detail) and am a little confused by something I have just read on the Wikipedia article on the Culture. It states that Earth is being monitored in the 1970's (during State of the Art), but then it says that Earth...
