Does anyone still read John Gardner's Grendel and T. H. White's The Once and Future King?
These two might have become relatively obscure (if they have) because they are revisionist treatments of Beowulf and Thomas Malory's Morte, works that (I suspect) are less often read than formerly...
Can anyone recommend me a good retelling of the King Arthur story?

The 1958 novel The Once and Future King was comprised of three earlier novels (including The Sword in the Stone) & an extra book, The Ill-Made Knight. I believe there is also a fifth book (The Book of Merlyn) added later in some editions.
