I decided to post this here (rather than the gaming forum), because I wanted to focus on the books/stories. I wonder if anyone has read these books and not played the games?
2 of my favorite adventure series have accompanying books that flesh out the worlds you experience in the game.
The Myst books ( the Book of Atrus, T'iana, and D'ni) and games are about a civilization (the D'ni) that can write worlds (ages) into being. The D'ni create a massive underground city on earth. At some point they are almost exterminated, but for a few survivors. The knowledge of writing ages is almost lost, but for a select few that try to relearn the lost art. There are 5 games (Myst, Riven, Exile, Revelation, and End of Ages ) that follow the family of one of the survivors. The 6th game, Uru, involves the discovery and excavation of the lost city.
The second series is about a man ( Gabriel Knight) who is born into a family of 'Ghost hunters'. Over the ages, his bloodline is called into fight agains various evils - voodoo, vampires, werewolves. There are only 2 books - Sins of the Fathers and the Beast Within, but there is a 3rd game.
Now I'm aware that these would be very light reads compared to stand alone fiction, but the stories are still entertaining and all the more fun since you can experience the game as well.

There are Myst books! hehee good god where have I been! LOL

I remember reading a couple of the Myst books and liking them, but that was years and years ago. Couldn't get into the game, though.

I played Riven myself, I really like the intricacies of it but I was put out cos I got stuck and couldn't finish it....*sigh*....but the feeling of moving around in world was cool

I have read several Dragonlance books despite not having played D&D. But even so, I've read many D&D RPG books, so I have a good idea of what it's about.
