I absolutely love Juliet Marillier's books (The Sevenwaters trilogy, Wolfskin) and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations of books that are similiar to hers?? With maybe a little Celtic/Irish culture??

Well I've read some of Julliett Marillier's work but it just didn't appeal to me all that much although it was competently enough written.

I've read Wolfskin but have you checked out its sequel Foxmask yet? It focuses on the generation following on from those involved in Wolfskin.

If not I can recommend it to you if you enjoyed the first book.

I could recommend some other books steeped in Irish/Celtic mythology but I might leave that to other members at the moment.

Good luck and happy reading.

Hi there,
I also loved her books. I suggest you read the Many Coloured Land series by Julian May. These are an enjoyable read, based on Celtic Mythology, but with an interesting twist... but well written - I've re read them many a time.

Can't think of any other Celtic ones at the moment that really stand out - although I am sure I've read a few! I also have a wonderful one - can't access at the moment, which is Celtic / Irish with a time travel theme to ancient ages.

Caseal Mor (not correct spelling) had a series out re Wanderers, which are specifically Irish... but I must admit I could never finish all of them (bought 3) and never could re read them - although others adore him (Aussie writer). I can't remember the titles- I ended up selling them 2nd hand for $1 each!

Hope that helps.

Sandra

A question... is it specifically Celtic you like, or the mythic themes - ie drawing heavily upon mythology.

The most absolutley amazing mythic books - which aren't top of best seller list - are by Robert Holdstock. Try the first 3 - Mythago Wood, Lavondyss and ? something else. The one with the picture of the masks on each title page (sorry, books upstairs, husband asleep) is utterly superb for the mythic / haunting theme. They also link to British / some celtic / picti mythology. REally recommended!

Dyffeg

I have read all six of Caiseal Mor's books. As a history fanatic I enjoyed everyone of them and would recommend them. Celts, Druids, Roman Catholic Missionaries feature prominently...

Thanks for the recommendations! I'm stuck without a book right now, but you guys gave me some good authors to look up!
Dyffeg, you mentioned one about time travel? If you like that, I think the Outlander seris is the best ever time travel book,
