When I was in middle school (about 7-8 years ago), I read a book that I have since not been able to erase from my memory. I can't find it, no one has heard of it. I feel as though I'm crazy. It's along the same lines as Susan Cooper. I used to be a big fan of Cooper (still am) and my librarian suggested this book to me. I remember the following details:
It is the story of a girl who either runs away or is kidnapped by this band of men and women who speak another language. They have amazingly beautiful, strong horses and she is attracted to them. She becomes a great rider, learns their language, and loves her new life. I can't remember if she falls in love with the leader or if he is someone she truly admires. I also can't remember if she stays with them or returns to her "own kind."
Does any of this sound familiar? Or am I just making this story up in my head? I'm dying to find this book!!! Thank you!
