(Found) Trying to remember a book desperately!!!!!

A while ago I read a brilliant series of books. HOwever i have forgotten the name and author!!! The subject contnet involved flyiny ships, a whitch who wa also we later found put the sister of the main charector ( young teen).
In one of them they find an island with a strange mechanical underground (maybe clock work) city.
The first book opens with a strange charector being washed up on the shore eyes gauged out, cluctching a piece of paper. (something to do with myth stones i think)
I know this is all very vague but i am desperatly want to read them again.
Any help would be much appreciated.

This sounds like the Voyage of the Jerle Shanara by Terry Brooks.Theres 3 books in the series
