If you see a stranger, follow him.
Anyone know of other authors riding the now popular paranormal/horror (without too much eroticism) wave? I've already read the first few Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlaine Harris, and am now hooked on Kelley Armstrong.

Yep, I know of at least three of a similar ilk:

Kim Harrison
C.E. Murphy
Laura Anne Gilman

I enjoy reading all three of these authors, as well as Harris and Armstrong. Gilman has a particularly soft touch with the romantic elements, and her magic system is less traditional, which I find refreshing. But I've soured on Hamilton.

I don't think of them (or Armstrong, Harris, or Hamilton) as writing horror, however. Bloody fantasy, maybe?

True- more like paranormal action/romance sometimes. I too am tiring of Hamilton. I don't mind a little, ahem, let's call it romance, in my books, but I think Hamilton may be getting a wee bit monotonous with it.

I'll have to give Gilman a try- thanks

Neither do I.
The nearest "Waterstones" to where I live is so small, it doesn't even have a horror section. The Fantasy and Horror are squashed into one shelf.
Terrible.

Agree on Hamilton. She was good for a while, but first I took to skipping the "romance" bits, then they were the whole book, so I was skipping the whole book, so I stopped bothering. A little bit is interesting. A whole book, especially one the size of the new one, is dull.
Harrison and Armstrong are good. Also whoever it was that wrote Dhampir, Theif of Lives and Sister of the Dead (more to come). I can't remember her name or the name of the series, but I'm looking forward to the next one.

Christine Feehan
MaryJanice Davidson

Feehan has an interesting take on the vampire theme. In her books, vampires are immortals gone too long without a lifemate, a shortage of women apparently.

I like Davidson because she has a great sense of humor throughout her books. Happily, neither of them are as smutty as Hamilton.

I've just read one of her books, but from what I've read she does seem to follow the typical formula. It's one way to pass the time though, lol. ;)

I've read Stolen, Dime Store Magic, and Industrial Magic. I thought they were all good reads. One of these days I have got to read Bitten, since it is the start of the series.

I have read Bitten and Stolen and enjoyed both. I will be getting her other books as well.

If you go to her website, she has the prequel to bitten that you can read online, or download it. And the best part is that it's free. She's one of the authors that posts some of her work online. And again I say, it's free. :D

Barb & J.C. Hendee.
I love this series. I can't wait to find out what happens in the next one. Everytime Leesil tries to go find his family, something happens to stall it...grrr lol but it keeps me hooked!

Another author that has literally taken the world by storm is Christopher Paolini. His two books, Eragon and Eldest were fantastic reads.

Patricia Briggs is great too. And Kim Harrison.

Ive read most of Armstrongs chronicles however unable to find her last one in the series of the "women of the underworld" I thought it was called Bitten but I read elsewhere that it was the first of the series. A little confused.
