Last week, I picked up a discounted graphic novel copy of "The Asgardian Wars" by Marvel Comics. The storyline features the '80s era X-Men and Alpha Flight teams. It was written by Chris Claremont and drawn by both Paul Smith and Arthur Adams. What I find interesting about the story is that, not only does it pit these two teams against each other, but it also places them all within Loki's scheming grasp while he enternally attempts to ascend to Asgardian's throne instead of his brother Thor, the Norse God of Thunder.

I was wondering if anyone else has read these comics. I haven't finished it completely, but, while overtold in the narrative, it isn't half-bad. Adams's work is stellar, in fact, and the plot twist in which Storm inherits the powers of Thor---mallet and all---is something not to miss.

I also found out, via a Google search, that there is a PC game about the X-Men under the same title, so the saga must have been noteable at some point.

Thoughts?

Probaby one of the highs of Claremont's run on the X-titles. Originally released as a two part limited series X-Men/Alpha Flight which set the two teams against Loki, then follwed up as Loki seeks his revenge first in NEW MUTANTS Special 1 (It was meant to be the second annual but was too long) and then finally in X-Men Annual 10 (I think - I'm doing this from memory) when the X-Men head to Asgard looking for the Kids.

Some brilliant stuff - I can still remember is now and I read it first time round, shame Claremont does not seem to write to this standard these days! Or perhaps that's just me being nostalgic.

As a footnote Loki goes after Alpha Flight again starting in AF 50 when he convinces Northstar that he is an elf... (Not exactly the highest part of AF's original run)
