I dont know about most of you people, but i think that George R. R. Martin is one of the best writers of our time. I just finished A Storm of Swords, and I cant wait until A Feast for Crows comes out. If agree or disagree with what i have to say please reply and tell me what u think.

Hi Crimson King, and welcome to the chronicles-network! I've not read GRR Martin m,yself - but I know that he's certainly been discussed a lot here. I'm sure someone will reply. :)

Hey Crimson King, you hit the nail on the head he's a genius, and a king of the geniuses to be sure. He has almost a sixth sense in how to catch you offgaurd and surprise you when you least expect.

I'm almost finished A Game of Thrones. Martin is quite easily one of the best fantasy writers out there. So many twists you can not possibly predict what is around the corner. The sheer lack of prediction makes his work stand out amongst the other cravens. Ned Stark haunts me...

Thanks I, Brian. I actually found the site looking to find more information on A Feast for Crows.(I can't wait!)

And the size of his work! A game of thrones was a good sized book, a clash of kings was a big book, a storm of swords(which i'm not 100% finished yet) is a BIG book. How big is a feast for crows going to be?I think that will be scary.I estimate about 1400 pages

Hello Lacedaemonian and Arthandor.

George Martin is my favorite author of the moment! I am waiting very impatiently for A Feast For Crows.

Which characters are your favorites? Which are your least favorites?

I believe all authors in a way are geniuses (or is that genii :D) in that they can magically make us feel, think and do things we may or may not have done before encountering their works. Their works can change us forever and we may not even realize it. As I said, it's magic.

I did enjoy A Game of Thrones but I believe I'm going to have to re-read it soon as a great many members here seem to think it is a top-notch, very cool and fantastic work and I don't remember being overly 'wowed' by it.

Welcome BTW, newbies!

Thank you for the warm welcome people! I am not sure which editions you lot own but the print in my version of A Game of Thrones is totally awful. My version of Clash of Kings has perhaps the smallest print imaginable. Small niggles aside, the story is tremendous. The chapters entitled Daenerys bored me to tears mind, though she will become relevant later, I assure myself. You never know with Martin the poor lass could be dead within a couple of chapters, achieving nothing. Has anybody here but I'd buy them if they re-release them.

The last sentence should read; Has anybody here read George Martin's Hedge Knight comics/graphic novels? They look pretty rubbish but I'd buy them if they ever re-released them. I bought the entire A Song of Ice and Fire series more or less on whim. I wish that all of whims resulted in such deep satisfaction. All writers are not genii. Most writers are poor. Heroic fantasy is by far and away my favourite genre, but I have to concede that most fantasy writers are rubbish. I would gladly abuse several very popular fantasy writers. This is just my opinion, though one shared by many. In fact some genres are imaginitively bankrupt.... Sci fi springs to mind......

LOL!!! Someone joined here from the company developing the artwork for that - they posted some of the artwork around here - as they did with gawd knows how many other sfff forums they had found. :)

I, Brian (which emperor did he come after?) have you read any of the Hedge Knight graphic novels? I have downloaded the first four comics, but would prefer to own the genuine article. Also, sorry for the non subject related question, but have you seen the I, Claudius dramatisation? My older brother loves them, and he is generally a man of sound taste and judgement. I watched a few episodes with him, and it did appear to be very good. Very complicated politicking seemed to be the main plot line. The Greek civilisation has more appeal to me, and particularly the Macedonian rise and fall and the Spartan defeat at Thermopylae (which makes me weep like a girl every time).

'Fraid I haven't read any of the Hedge Knight - story or graphic novel.

As for I, claudius - I'm afraid I've never seen the BBC adaption, which I figure is the one you mean? I'd love to see them, though. A problem I have with the books is that Claudius is rather romanticised from the historical depiction - the character of the book just seems too removed from the figure in Suetonious.

As for the Greeks - my interest lies primary with Rome, but Greece during the 5th-4th centuries BC is the period I've read most around. I figure you've read Thucydides, Peloponnesian War? Of all the original ancient histories I've read, his was probably my favourite - the way he brings the entire conflict to life - from the drama to the ridiculous - makes for great reading.

As for Macedon - almost surprised by that - especially when remembering Alexander's infamous tribute to the Greeks, when he dedicated his conquests to the Greeks "except the Laecedomians". Quite a snub that.

As for Themopylae - heh, I want to see more emphasis on the allies. Seems too many people have this strange idea of 400 spartans standing alone at the pass - guess the old epic film helps with that. In the current re-making I really hope we see something more of the 15,000 Thespians and other allies who fought in that battle ,too.

The Spartans give the allies the choice to stay or go. Most of them went. It was also the allies who failed to hold the other pass, thus allowing the Persians to surround them. The allies should get a mention though, as some did stay.

I, Claudius is widely available in most libraries. It will take you about three weeks to watch though. Claudius is portrayed as a bit of simpleton if I remember correctly.

I now have all six Hedge Knight comics in JPEG format.

My favourite character in A Song of Ice and Fire (I'm only half way through A Clash of Kings) is Arya. I also love the Tyrion chapters. The chapters I least like are the Daenerys and Sansa chapters. Tyrion appears to be George's greatest character so far.

Sansa is a whiny brat!:p I like Daenerys though. That's how I got hooked on this series in the first place. I read a short story with her in it, but now I can't remember the name of the book it came out in. Tyrion is a great character! There is something about a smartass that is hard for me to resist.:D

I am only on to the second book, so i do not know what is in store for most of the characters but I just feel that Tyrion has no agenda and appears to be a good person. His interest in Jon Snow and Bran Stark and the kindness he shows them is highly suggestive of this. The last chapter that I read with Tyrion was where he was meeting all of the kings council individually and was numbering them 1, 2, 3..... They are going to get it!! I can not wait.

Tyroin Lannister is the best! Deanyris is cool too. ( sorry that i spelled it wrong im in school and i dont have the books with me) It would be awsome if they would create it in a animated version like they did LOTR .
