DragonCon

It's this weekend! My husband and oldest daughter are going. I can't get away this weekend so I guess I'll be living vicariously through them. Going to be some big names there - Robert Asprin, Larry Elmore, the Ghosthunter guys, Erin Gray, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Todd McCaffrey, Erin Moran (Joanie Loves Chachi), George Romero, George Takai, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, and so many, many more! I want pictures and maybe autographs. I'll get wade to set aside some time to post after.

I'll be there.

Hey! Did you go?

My husband and daughter went on Saturday. I'd love to post some of the pictures Ash took, and even scan in some of the autographs she got, but...

Apparently I did not go over how to use my digital camera properly. Ash took 16 pictures (only) and 10 of those were of her shoes. I am not kidding. The only pictures that came out decent at all were the 2 her dad took. One of her, and one of a storm trooper who looked to be dating Princess Leia.

Stars were charging for autographs, and Wade and Ash couldn't find the author section. They saw some of the authors milling about whilst they were busy milling as well, but never got over to the proper building. Apparently the 3 huge hotels were a bit crowded and confusing. Not that they ran out of things to do - because they didn't.

They got to go to the BattleStar Galactica panel (Wade is a huge fan), and even took some pictures supposedly (looks like feet to me). They also had fun at the Firefly panel. Alan Tudyk is very funny and nice, kind of like his Wash character, and Summer Glau, River, is even more beautiful in person.

The artists displaying their wares were amazing - although I did not get pictures, I did get flyers, business cards, web addresses, etc. - and Wade even got to chat a few minutes with Larry Elmore! (larryelmore.com) Some of the artists even agreed to let Wade feature them in upcoming Afterburnsf issues.

All in all, they had a wonderful time. They are even trying to convice me to close the store next year and go with them. I don't know, we'd probably have to stay 2 days so I could find the authors tables. I guess it's someting to think about - I'll let you know if I do, but of course, that'll be next year :)

Yes, I was there, Thursday afternoon to Sunday. The stars always charge for autographs, but apparently this year there was a bit of drama as Julie Caitlin Brown (formerly a'toth of B5) is now an "agent" for many of the actors, and was forcing them to allow only her husband to take "professional" photos at $50 a pop, while all the other actors charged only $20 and let you take photos yourself. She really pissed off some actors and fans this year.

There is an artists alley and a stars walk of fame, but not really a permanent place for authors - you look at the schedule and see when they are signing and then you can go find them at that time. But they don't sit somewhere all day like the stars and the artists do.

I recommend going next year. :]

Well, I caught my error immediately but still couldn't edit. As you can see I posted both posts within the same minute.

I think it's more like 30 seconds. ;]

Oh, well you should have been able to then. You might want to check with the site admin, I, Brian as this may be some sort of glitch in the system or he may have changed the time period. I'm guessing a glitch as I've been able to edit mine without any issues.

I went to Dragon Con and Ice Queen is so right about the walk of fame. The only pic I got was Ray Park and he was charging $5.00 for a pic from your own camera and $15.00 if his photographer took it and then he would sign the picture which was given to you in an hour and all the money is donated to the charity Make a wish Foundation...He is a very nice guy......

Here are my pics.....alot of them were of the Jedi Assembly who I was there with.....

Sorry, I haven't made 15 posts yet, so I can't post my DC pics......:( :( :(

Does anyone have any pics. I just love dragons but Atlanta is just too far even for me! And I'd love to see the pics.

Here is a complete newbie question. my previous cons have been Creation and they charge quite a lot for everything. Can you really get pictures with anyone for only $20? At the farscape and star trek creation cons it was anywhere from 30-90 bucks per picture...

Is each actor there everyday? Should we plan to camp for popular actors?

Thanks!

The stars spend a certain number of hours each day on the walk of fame. Many hold lectures. There is no need to camp out though... I have never seen it that crowded. There are lots of fans, like me, that just like to walk around and see the stars. I am not much for autographs. The only pics I have are of Ray Park. I also have his 501st card which he was nice enough to give me even though I don't have mine made yet. He collects them all from all the members of the 501st, Rebel Legion and the Jedi Assembly.

Dragon Con has a book with everything posted and the times, so you shouldn't miss anything....and most of the pics are $20.00..... Some of the wacky stars that think they are all that, will try and charge more. For many of the stars that aren't active in movies anymore...conventions is their only source of income...then you have the cool ones that just love the fans and donate their picture collections to charity......

I have got to get back here more often so I can post links to my pics. I have over 300....and it is time to go again so I'll have 300 more....lol
