Hi, I know I'm a bit behind times but I've just got my hands on the first two books. Have to say I love them.

As I'm now offically old and jaded, the standard sub-Tolkien good versus evil quest fiction that dominates fantasy has become more and more unpalatable to me, so the blood-thirsty cynical realism of AGoT is a real treat. Love it.

So far, Tryian, Arry, Daenerys and Bran are my favourites.

Now I've just got the nightmare of explaining to my local libary, that I would appreciate being able to read part 1 of Book 3 before reading part 2 of book 3, a concept that so far they have failed to grasp.

Welcome to the Game. Just beware of spoilers. Many of us, I admit to being the worst, don't advertize spoilers... we kind of assume if you are reading here, then you've read through AFFC. If you like ASOIAF, then I recommend Shogun by James Clavell. Good Luck.

I've read it twice, must be about time for another read. :D

Thanks for the welcome, I'll try and read the next two books as quick as possible to avoid any spoilers.

Btw, that's not the best picture of Toshiro Mifune, but it still catches his raw passion. He just blows me away... great avatar!

when will AFFC be released in paperback by the way, does anyone know?

Interesting. Was it only HB up till then? Here it was first released as a trade paperbrick. I mean back.

Hmmm, a house made of paperbricks. The three little pigs may offer some advice on that one... :)

Odd though. Most new books get released on hardback first and then about 6-8 months later in TPB, at least in the UK anyway.
I suppose I have seen some books 'appear' as TPB but they're the straight-to-video equivalent, aren't they? ;)

Perhaps fewer folk here are buying hardbacks. I know I won't shell out $40-$50 bucks for a new release (I could see three movies for that! Or feed myself for a week...), which is about the price they debut at at most retailers. Actually, thinking about it, you'd have to search far and wide for a hardback edition of most new releases lately.

By the way, welcome aboard, PenDragon!

Yikes!
Not sure what the current exchange rate between the UK & Aussieland is but currently most hardbacks at most cost £16.99 and generally you can get them for as little as £10 if you shop around.

Compared to about £7-8 for TPB

Cheers, digging Tigger too!

I had to cut the Mifune avatar down to fit. The picture is called "The Master." found it somewhere on that interweb thingy.

The AFFC In my library is a huge hardback tome.

I managed to get the third book on day of release in trade paperback. Unfortunately the binding finally failed last week :( And you can't get the book anymore in that format or in hardback. So it looks like the next time I do a re-read I'll have to go and rebuy them in the MMPBs.

The AFFC MMPB should be released in the UK in October. The trade paperback is now out.
