science fiction/fantasy organizations?

To join SFWA you have to have a certain number of professional sales under your belt. They do, however, maintain a website which contains useful information for aspiring writers.

Three short stories or one novel for a full membership, one short story for an associate membership, the last I heard. But your sales have to be to markets that pay professional rates. As Bookstop says, the specifics are at their website.

I used to belong, but I let my membership lapse several years ago when I stopped writing for a while and sought gainful employment instead. The biggest benefit, for me, was receiving their publications, but you can subscribe to the Bulletin (which is the most useful, because it includes great marketing information), without a membership.

Thanks Teresa for your help. I will check the Bulletin out in due time. I noticed that literary agents look at membership in a professional writer's organization as credential and that's why I am interested. Unfortunately everything I have ever submitted has been rejected. I will have to try harder now want I? Wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. Presently, I work a full time job, because I have never made any money from writing! lol!

I think persistence is key, but I am not sure...
