Im about to go on holiday for a week and i would like something to bring with me to read. I am 16 and male and have read the following books in both the science fiction and fantasy type.

His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman
Ender Saga, Orson Scot Card
The Immortals quartet, Tamora Pierce

Ihave read others but none more come to mind. Those three series i enjoyed reading alot. can anyone give me a recomendation for a good young adult author.

You could try some of the classic young adult fantasy by Tamora Pierce or the new book Eragon by a young author not much older than you, there is another thread here that discusses the book.

Your taste seems pretty similar to mine. So I'll give you a list of some stuff I have enjoyed.
Tamora Pierce and Orson Scott Card both have other books out there that are great. Card is a particular enjoyment. I have yet to read a book by him that I have not enjoyed. Then There is Robin McKinley- she writes a lot fantasies retold but they are brilliant. One of my personal favorite books is Sabriel by Garth Nix. He has two sequels to that book. Both are excellent. Good Luck.

If you like Card, you could try Unaccompanied Sonata - a book of his short stories, some of them very good - and perfect for that short burst of entertainment and insight :)

I am not sure what those books are but I will give you some advice anyways, decide if you want to read them. Dune is definite a classic, and it's very interesting, but sometimes it can get confusing, at least that's what I thought. Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion are excellent books to read. I think you already knows of the movies, and Silmarillion is a prequel. You may found both books very boring at the beginning, but the interesting part is right there, after those long boring talks. I think you already chose to read more Tamora Pierce's books, but you can see if you want to read those after.
