Frustrated

So ive been readng all these briene threads and what name she yells out and it seems clear to me that that name is stannis as she vowed to kill him in a clash of kings and catelyn would also blame him for robbs death. Everyone else says Jaime...Surely I am not the only one who thinks its stannis?

Well...

Here is the passage:

"She says you must choose. Take the sword and slay the Kingslayer, or be hanged for a betrayer. The sword or the noose, she says. Choose."

at the end:
She screamed a word

notice it says "word" and not "name."

So, seems to me she must have yelled out "Sword" agreeing to kill Jaime.

It would be more tragically fitting as I think she was beginning to develop feelings for him & visa versa.

Nothing like a little character angst to spice things up a bit!
Hard to guess that anything could have saved her though as why would zombie-catelyn trust her to keep her word when, as far as she is concerned, she didn't keep her past promises?

Actually, Stannis is not a bad idea. We all know how nobler-than-thou Brienne tries to be, the painful irony that is her life, striving to be all that a knight should be, and yet forever unable (until modern surgical procedures, anyway ) to fulfil it's most basic tenet - to be a MAN. She truly believes in all that "utter no word that is untrue, even if it leads to your death" crap. So I doubt she'd lie even to save her own life. However, If Catelyn did not say "kill Jaime lannister" Brienne can quite honourably swear to kill "the kingslayer" and then gallop off and decapitate Stannis!

Marking a cross next to the former Lord of the Crossing, Briene mounted her horse and turned north, towards the wall. Only two more things to do.

Wise choice ...

I think she must have said, 'sword,' as another poster mentioned. I can't imagine that she would choose death, but then again this is Martin. Killing off a (now) main character is like shooting ducks in a barrel.

But is anyone else frustrated at this blatant cliffhanger by GRRM? I mean, couldn't he have just told us what happened and then have us debate if it was true or not, a la Darth Vader and Luke.

Plus, we probably won't find out what happened to Brienne in DwD becuase of the setting split, it may be years before we know. It's already killing me and it's only been 6 months.
