Well, there has been numerous speculations and postings on different threads about where Dany may go from here and who may or may not ally themselves with her. Certainly in AFFC, we started to see the coming together of those working behind the scenes to bring Dany and the last know Targaryen back to Westeros and the Iron Throne.

So, I decided to start a new thread devoted to discussing who will end up in her corner when the bell rings and the fight begins.

I offer the following:

-Dorne: Doran Martell's revelation at the end of AFFC of his plan to back Dany was a startling one for me and clearly puts Sunspear on Dany's side.

-Iron Islands: Victarion is on his way to Dany with part of the Iron Fleet to bring her back to Euron as his future bride (and to use her dragons). However, Victarion has plans of revenge against his dear brother. What will Dany promise to Victarion and the Ironborn for their support, particularly their sea power. Also, Asha is seen as having lesser ambitions than Euron and couls align herself with Dany (unless she goes to Stannis).

-House Tyrell: They owe alot to the Targaryens and supported them to the end. With them comes the swords of Highgarden as well.

-Oldtown: What role will the Maesters play in all this and why have the Faceless Mean infiltrated them?

-The North: The North could rise up against King's Landing and Stannis. We see in the Jon preview chapters that the remaining lords in the North, including White Harbour do not support his claim. If Dany ends up at the Wall with her dragons for whatever reason (the Others maybe), then she may be seen as a saviour of sorts.

-The Faith: Well the Sparrows with swords may support Dany if they see her as a purer ruler than the Lannisters. Now with Cersei in chains and some of her secrets out, this may make Dany look like the Blessed Virgin Mary. Dany has also so far been the champion for the downthrodden and underclass, which will certainly appeal to the common folk who support the Sparrows.

-The Vale: Littlefingers plans and whether he would support Dany? Could be an interesting twist.

-The Riverlords: Those would supported Robb Stark may follow if the North supported Dany and certainly would support anyone who promised to rid them of the Lanmnisters and Baratheons.

-Melissandre: Maybe Dany is Azor Ahai reborn.

-Salandor Saan and the Pirates: We see in the Davos preview chapter that Salador Saan and the other Prirates have all but abandonned Stannis. If Dany offers them enough money (through Illyrio of course) they may support her and even transport her army.

-the Free Cities: What role will they play? There have been some theories that they have been trying to influence the outcome of the war in Westeros and that there may even be a secret society working behind the scenes to destabilize Westeros (and the Faceless Men are the agents). We also see that in AFFC, Cersei dismisses the emissaries from (I think) Myr and Lys that ask her to pay her debts. I don't think GRRM put that in there only as another example of Cersei's bad leadership but the Free Cities who control the banks and have leant extraordinary sums of money to King's Landing during Robert's, Joffrey's and Tommen's rule have an interest in getting paid. For commercial reasons they may support Dany financially for revenge, out of spite, etc.

-The Black Watch: Should Jon and Dany meet, should Dany travel to the Wall, should Dany and her dragons save them from the Others, the Watch and Jon may decide to no longer be neutral in this conflict. The Watch is made up mostly of the underclass, bastards, criminals, etc. who may see Dany as stability.

and last but not least: Varys and Tyrion

Hmm. I don't entirely agree.

Team Daenerys
House Greyjoy (Victarion)
House Martell and most, if not all of Dorne
Assorted loyalists across Westeros
Barristan Selmy
Tyrion Lannister
The Unsullied
Varys
Ilyrio Mopatis
Her bloodriders
Her dragons
The Conningtons' freerider company

Team Stannis
House Greyjoy (Theon & Asha)
House Karstark
Jon Snow (for now)
The Night's Watch (for now)
The Wildlings (for now)

Team Tommen
House Lannister & probably all of the Westerlands
House Tyrell & most of the Reach
House Frey
House Bolton (including the Umbers and some of the North)

Uncertain
House Greyjoy (Euron, Aeron)
The Golden Company
Stark Loyalists (House Mormont, House Reed etc)
Many of the Riverlands and Northern houses
Littlefinger (will do whatever is the best for him) & House Arryn
The Faith of the Seven

House Tyrell has simply gone too far I think in getting Margaery made queen. I think they'll gamble on supporting Tommen (if not controlling him outright) against Dany's invasion, possibly setting the scene for Field of Fire II.

The Stark loyalists (most notably the Reeds and Mormonts, possibly the Manderlys if they are simply pretending to support the Boltons until they can regain control of their destinies) are probably going to be on the fence until Arya, Sansa or Rickon re-emerge from hiding.

The Greyjoys are going to be in some difficulties, with Euron intent on conquering new islands and raiding the coasts, Aeron trying to raise a rebellion against him, Victarion off to Slaver's Bay and Asha probably off to rescue Theon. I can see a situation developing where Asha rescues Theon and they offer Stannis the Iron Islands' loyalty in return for his help in deposing Euron, which could mean that the Greyjoys end up with a toe in all three camps.

Well, like Boaz would say, most of what I put down was purely wild speculations and in fact I pose several questions about where certain groups would lie like the North, the Riverlords, the Vale and Oldtown.

I however, would NEVER put Jon Snow, the Night's Watch and the Wildlings on Stannis' team. Especially after he burns Mance Rayder. I would put House Florent and Davos in their place.

Another ? is The Brotherhood and where they would fall. Probably remain neutral.

Its all for naught anyhow...Stannis is going to get possessed and become the flaming axe that cleaves the wall in twain. Then the Others are going to march through a shattered north. The scattered remnants of Westeros are leaderless and ineffective until ravens from Jon reach them to begin coordination....and then when all hope is lost, Dany, the dragons and the Unsullied arrive....

The rest of the story I very humbly leave for George to write....

I have some wishful thinking going on, mostly involving the Lannisters getting burned up by dragons, but GRRM is too unexpected and twisty for me to see anything.

Well, Jon Snow, the Night's Watch and the wildlings are on Stannis' team at the moment, even if only because they haven't stood against him (yet). That could change.

The Brotherhood itself seems to have splintered apart (note a few familiar faces were not present in AFFC; GRRM has said that some of the Brotherhood took issue with Stoneheart's leadership and have broken away), so how they lie in the coming conflict seems confused at the moment. My guess is that all Stoneheart cares about is destroying the Lannisters, the Freys and the Boltons. Everything else is irrelevant to her and what's left of the Brotherhood.

I wonder if they would stand against him? After all, Jon takes his vows quite seriously and he's sworn not to help or hinder any king.

In my opinion Jon would take part if there is any opportunity for him without breaking his vows. But what exactly were his vows? (I couldn't find them if they are in the books)
Was it not to support or hinder KINGS?
If Jon wants to find a way:
What about a queen?

The Night's Watch oath does not actually say that members cannot support a king. It says instead they shall "wear no crowns and win no glory". However, there are several references to the NW being 'sworn to take no part in matters of the realm', ie it's not just about kings. :)

There is also a few mentions in either ASOS or AFFC (can't remember which one) of the last Queen to have visited the Wall, her graciousness, her caring for the men there, her staying in several of the castles and HER DRAGON. I hope GRRM is using this as foreseeing Dany's visit to the Wall...

Yes, Good Queen Alysanne, the sister and wife of King Jaehaerys I, the Conciliator. She visited the Wall on her dragon, Silverwing, after getting bored on a state visit to Winterfell and took stock of the Night's Watch. Because of her advice, the ill-omened and partially-ruined Nightfort was abandoned and Deeplake was built in its stead.

She gave them the New Gift, IIRC. The Old Gift was always part of the Watch's remit.

But surely if it was a gift it was given?
Right about the New Gift though, i forgot. But surely the Gift must have been Given?

It was. Bran the Builder set up the Watch and then gave them the Gift.

I know this absolutely goes without saying, but Wert is correct.

This is like Shatner telling critics that Brando would be better at a part.......

LOL! How did I ever miss this last post!

I can just see this on the SATs...

28. Wert is to Brando as Aegon is to...

a)Vern Troyer.
b)William Shatner.
c)Queen Latifah.
d)Howard Stern.
e)all of the above.

Every once in a while I go back and read my old posts....and I have to tell you I crack me up. Is that bad?

This ones my favorite...

Actually Boaz, George discussed a Hodor PoV at one his booksignings. Let me find my notes....

Okay this isnt verbatim, but its what I scribbled down as he spoke.

"Hodor Hodor Hodor, in the Hodor Hodor Hodor. With the Hodor Hodor Hodor was Hodor Hodor to Hodor the Hodor Hodor. "Ha Hodor Ha Hodor" said Hodor to the Hodor Hodor. Why was Hodor Hodoring the Hodor Hodor? It Hodor Hodor Hodor the Hodor Hodor. Hodoriffic!!!"

Enjoy.

Yes, yes, yes. You kill me! I've said it before. You are the funniest poster on these boards... after me, of course. And AryaUnderfoot is funny also. Btw, where is she?

You know I came across your post here because I was trying to track down the referrences to Young Griff... for you!

It's all about you.

Now if I only had something intelligent to say about Dany's Grand Alliance, I could salvage this post and not have Raven chide me.

Do you think Dany and Aegon will fight before they join... if they join? Do the titles of the planned books preclude them from warring on each other ala Stannis and Renly?

Could we still have a War of the Roses? Jon, the son of Lyanna (the Blue Rose) versus the Martells (the Yellow Rose of Highgarden).

Hodoriffic!!!".
LOL :D Good one!
