For want of a better title, I'll start by referring to my new series as The Dragon Orb series. I am pleased to be able to formally announce my agent is currently in the final stages of negotiating the contract with S & S for a new four book series featuring the characters from the short story I wrote for Dwndrgn some time ago. The four planned titles are:

Dragon Pact (Spring 08)
Night Dragon (Autumn 08)
Dusk Dragon (Spring 09)
Dawn Dragon (Autumn 09)

They have also offered on the third in the Imperial Series - Imperial Traitor, which should be published towards the end of next summer.

The storyline has undergone such a drastic change during the negotiation stages that I will be totally re-writing the start, so the story featured here on Chronicles will not see traditional print in the form it now exists. However, the characters were born here. I'm looking forward to living through the adventures that lie ahead for Elian and Ryshell. I think they're going to be a lot of fun.

Great news Mark! But come on, there's six months between each of these titles - surely you can persuade them to bring this down to three, and then the writing will keep you busy after breakfast too! :)

Which makes me wonder what you eat for breakfast that gives you the energy to produce an entire book every six months. (Perhaps one of Dwndrgn's cows?) You are a dynamo!

I think my breakfasts when I was a teenager set me up for later life. My poor mother used to despair! I would regularly eat 12 weetabix (or 8 shredded wheat) followed by 4 slices of toast and a couple of cups of tea. It was amazing that I remained rake thin until my late twenties.

My plan is to stay at least one book ahead over the next couple of years. Whether I can do it remains to be seen, but I'm fairly confident that I'll keep up with the schedule. I can be very disciplined when I try - probably down to my military background, I imagine.

CAN'T WAIT!!! :D

I wonder if all writing is getting faster in recent times. Terry Pratchett writes a book every 6 months too. I haven't written one in 21 years :)

Excellent news, be good to see how this series works out :D

well sounds like good news:p .
Sorry can't think of a better and deeper reply am more in the vent and rant thread mood and am seeing things thanks to not moving all day storing info in my head. Will return later.

That sounds fantastic, can't wait to read them. I foresee a lot of writing in your future!

Hi Mark, haven't been on the forums for a while.
Glad to see you finally announced it (you spoke to me about it before in Slough Ottakars) are you planning on releasing paragraphs etc to keep us entertained until you publish it?

Balinor, I'm not sure what I'll be allowed to release, or when. That's the only problem with working with a major publisher - you are tied to their rules. I can tell you that I started writing book 1 in earnest last week and have already punched out around 15 000 words! I don't think the first book will take me very long to write at all, which is just as well, because I intend to try to complete the first & second by August.

I can tell you that you'll have to wait until book 2 to meet the griffins, but more of that later ... :)

Many congrats on this Mark. With a publishing (or should that be punishing?) schedule like that, you're going to have to cut down on the promtional touring, or you'll never have the time to get the books written!

Actually, Ian, the plan is to scale up the promotional touring. The only catch is that in order to generate the time to make this possible I have to write the books faster than I've ever written before. As you know, I never do things by halves, so I'll be giving it my best shot to make the plan work. One thing you can be sure of is that this year will see a significant expansion of my readership ... by hook, or by crook!
