Does anyone here know, biologically speaking, how Daleks reproduce?
I know in "Parting of the Ways" they used genetic engineering and cloning, but my understanding was that that was out of neccessity amd not the standard means.

Re: Daleks

I think they recycle what ever the race is and extract Genes that are considered to be free from emotion.

There again I am not sure, trying to think back to the Davros days and even then I don't think it was made known.

Re: Daleks

well if daleks are anything like dialects then they reproduce by having slightly dissimilar copies of themselves passed onto other cultures :)

i dont think daleks reproduce i think they have no reproductive organ things and i think they buid more n call them their children

Re: Daleks

you dont get it, you cannot build a dalek, you are thinking of the casing which they live inside. the dalek is the wiggly creature inside which is kinda slug like but mutated. perhaps the casing gets built and then an already existing dalek will multiply creating enough for the casings?

That was the worst pun I have ever heard.

Re: Daleks

There's nothing on wikipedia, strangely. On the same topic, what about Cybermen?

Re: Daleks

The Cybermen are easy, we've seen it in the show: Spare limbs come flying out from behind the curtain followed by the latest happy volunteer.

The thought of two Daleks copulating makes one shudder. No dustbin would be safe. So we must be looking at test tube reproduction in some form.
From Parting of the Ways (27:13) we learnt that the Emperor Dalek had built his army pretty well single plungered, which means cloning.

But his plans for Earth consisted of more than simply disposing of everybody. He wanted material as well, which suggests simple cloning is not enough on its own. So we have a healthy dose of genetic, if not cell manipulation too.

I'm talking about actual reproduction, though- could two Cybermen reproduce?

Re: Daleks

From the latest couple of seasons it would seem that Cybermen are simply humans with a few tweaks. Theoretically, therefore, underneath the skin there should be their original working parts.

And it looks like I've missed the chance for some complicated pun involving Daleks and Buffy, given her known middle name....

Re: Daleks

I don't even want to think about the Cybermen!

As to the Daleks they were originally humaniod so I guess they reproduced in the normal way. They mutated after a nuclear war and the only way they could survive was to be placed in a Life Support/ Transport/Weapon case - the actual Dalek case, which was designed to specifically house them.

Following that they conquered. pillaged and reproduced by mutating others and cloning. Whether the mutants inside would have been able to actually reproduce it's something I don't want to really think about...

Re: Daleks

In Genesis of the Daleks, Tom Baker was going to rid the univese of the Daleks by destroying the young Daleks inside 'Incubation Room'. I just had a thought that maybe they lay eggs!

edit: I've changed thread title to Dalek Reproduction. There is an existing thread called 'Daleks: Beginning and End' which is more about their history.
