I just finished the first book of the The Firebringer Trilogy last night. It's an awesome story of unicorns and I recommend it to everyone. The first book is called Birth of the Firebringer by Meredith Ann Pierce. It's a short book for Y A and it read fairly quickly and easily. The writing is very smooth, poetic like, and I loved it!

Here are some of Meredith's other stories:

Series
Darkangel

1. The Darkangel (1982)
2. A Gathering of Gargoyles (1984)
3. The Pearl of the Soul of the World (1989)

Firebringer
1. Birth of the Firebringer (1985)
2. Dark Moon (1992)
3. The Son of Summer Stars (1996)

Novels
The Woman Who Loved Reindeer (1985)
Where the Wild Geese Go (1988)
Treasure at the Heart of the Tanglewood (2001)

Omnibus
The Firebringer Trilogy (2003)

Collections
Waters Luminous and Deep: Shorter Fictions (2004)

Awards
Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Adult Literature Best Novel nominee (1983) : The Darkangel

I love the Darkangel books; they've been favorites of mine for many, many years. I highly recommend them. If you like her style, you'll almost certainly love this one.

The Woman Who Loved Reindeer is an excellent book -- it just didn't excite me personally. I should try reading it again, since it was a good book and I might be better able to appreciate it now.

I enjoyed The Treasure at the Heart of the Tanglewood -- more YA than Darkangel, but I'm a sucker for seasonal myths. The Firebringer didn't do anything for me, so I didn't read the others in that series. (Are you beginning to guess that I like Meredith Ann Pierce quite a bit?) Waters Luminous and Deep -- that's an anthology, but only about half of the stories struck a chord.

Where the Wild Geese Go is not a novel, it's a piece of short fiction published as a children's picture book. You've been consulting Fantasticfiction again, haven't you, Alia? (tsk, tsk) I've warned you about them.
