Greenland Ice Sheet

*sigh* I wonder what it is going to take to convince the naysayers that the climate is changing and things are going to get worse before they get better on that front. Maybe when all the corporate headquarters in New York City and Los Angeles and San Francisco are afloat? When water is seeping under the doors at the White House? Because it isn't just Greenland, as I understand it. Isn't the Antarctic ice sheet speeding up its melt as well?

Even then will they take notice? London has the Thames barage to prevent flooding and there's now talk that we need another.

The original barage was a good idea because it was to counter unusually high tides but I suspect the next one will be a 'technical fix' rather than solving the real problem of global warming.

And you can guarantee the same thing will be done with New York City and Los Angeles and San Francisco. Billions will be spent on a technical solution.

We had a TV program on this last week. Footage of the ice melting was shown, as too the warning of how many of the worlds cities and towns would probably be flooded.

If most of the 'citizens' of the world know that the climate is changing because of our way of life, then why don't the 'powers that be'? Political and money seems to be the answer to that :(

Of course the politicians know, Rosemary. They just don't care. It all goes back to Ronald Reagan and his comment that when you've seen one tree, you've seen them all, and to one of his Secretary of the Interiors, James Watt, who said somewhere that it doesn't matter what we do to the earth, because Jesus is coming back soon, anyway. (Not meaning to get into religion here, but it is in the public record that the man said that.) With the Bush administration it is that, coupled with the fact that he so obviously only cares about making it easier for his cronies in big business to make lots and lots of money, no matter what destruction is wrought in the making of it.
