Not the ones with two legs.

The bold and enormous packs that are now roaming seemingly throughout the Trident.

What's their deal?
 
One definitely is, but they seem too omnipresent to consist soley of one pack.
 
I'm quite sure Nymeria is the reason behind it though.

She may have one main pack so to speak but I'm sure the other wolves are there for her. That, or her presence along the Trident has given them the confidence to run riot and form packs. I'm all for the former explanation though... wasn't Nymeria a Battle Queen who had a knack of rallying her troops?

Wonder why Stoneheart and her gang haven't had run-in's with the wolves? Or have they? And are the wolves only preying on Lannisters and Freys? If so, that would suggest a certain level fo intelligence or that someone was controlling them. There are alot of scattered Northmen and common folk in the Riverlands and I wonder if they are falling prey to the wolves as well.
 
To what end is she bringing them together do you think?

Or is it just a kind of ecological byproduct of the war?
 
I'm seem to remember something about the wolves only going after the 'enemy' so to speak, maybe the "dreams" that link Nymeria and Arya have a part to play in this too?

I'm about at the last fifty pages of the second book, and if I remember correctly i saw an allusion made to Nymeria having the control over a pack of wolves somewhere in there
 
Its always been my rather unimaginative contention that the wolves were either an idealized self-image of the children or a bit of foreshadowing on Martins part...withh exception of Grey Wind and Shaggy Dog theyre all kind of obvious where either the character is going or what they think...but the part that I missed was it works both ways....in Nyms case she is I think actually fulfilling Aryas potential in a shared duality kind of thing....and adds more fuel to the Arya wreaking bloody havoc on certain golden haired people angle.

Which is why I always felt that Jon will be engaging in a guerilla campaign against the Others after they break the wall. I mean cmon...Ghost. The north being depopulated and bleak right now, makes for easy going for those zombie things...you block a few passes maybe you slow em down. Of course guerrilla implies a static enemy that isnt marching inexorably southward. So once again...I dont know what Im talking about.

Did I ever mention I loved the Shaggy Dog/Rickon relationship. Heck I love the fact his name is Shaggy Dog, and he's a wolf...cracks me up every time...

Completely agree!! Reminds me in some regards of that scene in Good Omens where they send the Adam the hellhound and he names it "Dog". Of course this is somewhat the reverse of that. :)

I hope this isnt something that falls by the wayside. Id love to see what becomes of both. Of course, Id love to just roam Westeros, examining the flora and fauna, looking under rocks, fishing in streams, sipping vintage Dornish red and Arbor white....GRRM has to draw lines somewhere!
