In the Movie Dr. Jackson states that the symbols on the STARGATE are Constellations.
The Chevrons on the Earth gate are the constellations seen on Earth. But when the team went to Abydos, the Chevrons on the gate are different. This suggest that Each planet has Different constellations and Each gate shows the different constellations.

But In SG1 each Stargate has the same chevrons.

So are the Chevrons, constellations or some STARGATE codes created by the Ancients?

Or are the producers of SG1 to cheap to come up with unique Chevrons for each Planet?

Probably the last reason. <G> Probably just one of those inconsistancies that run amuck sometimes, because if they are constellations as stated in the Movie then each planet would have a unique set. The Ancients, if they are the Gate Builders, would probably use the same constellations but the view from each planet would be slightly different, I would imagine, so the shape would be somewhat different with each world. I'm guessing here though. Not an astronomer.

Or it is possible that the Ancients visited Earth first, saw the constelations and developed around the Earth constellations.

It's as good an answer as any and would save having to memorize a different set of constellation symbols on each world. Good grief can you imagine how many each traveller would have to memorize (or the size of the roadmap they might carry) would have to be? It boggles.
Cheers,
