I've only seen this episode a few times, but as I'm on a roll for starting conversations, I might as well keep going...
I'd have to say my favourite part of this episode would have to be right at the end when SG-1 come back and see that Daniel made it! Especially the "Space Monkey" comment from Jack...that nickname has stuck with Daniel Jackson fans everywhere...there's even an IRC room for DANIELites affectionately called the "Space Monkey Bar".

What about everyone else's favourite part? And did anyone notice any controversies in this ep?

Difficult to pick only one scene from this ep. The one you mentioned, the Space Monkey scene, was a great one. The scene when Bratac first enters the cell and punches Jack in the nose is one I remember. Then there's the conversation between Jack and Bratac about the 'Space Shuttles'. Also the scene when Jack throws the hand grenade down into the shield generator. Actually the more I think of it, any of the scenes with interaction between Bratac and Jack were good.
Cheers,

I have to agree with MythingLink. My favourite scene has to have been the "hand grenade" bit, but also later when Bratac says "now that is a grenade"
I forget but was it this ep or the end of series 1 ep when they escape from the Jail? That is also quite a good bit.

I still think the two episodes (I have not got them separated in my mind) are some of the best of all time. It was a better cliff hanger than the end of Season 2 I recon and perhaps even Series 3 although I am dying to watch the start of Series 4. Action packed and intersting, well and trully made up for the awful episode that was Politics!

I also think this was the first ever stargate ep I saw. Either this or solitudes.

I'm with ML too. I love the scene with "Space Shuttles".
I like also the conversation between Jack and wounded Daniel and that look in Jack's eyes, when he leaves Daniel.
And of course the "Space Monkey" scene at the very end of this episode.

I loved Serpent's Lair! Any scene between Jack and Bra'tac are great. Those guys have a friendly rivalry going! Each trying to outdo the other. Kept me laughing during the these times. Liked Ska ara fighting Klorel's control. The scene of the Mothership was great when the bombs were approaching and Klorel couldn't quite get them up in time. Hammond's speach before the teams left off world was good. and Any of Hammond's scenes with Samuels. He was alternately sarcastic and disgusted. Carter and the Bite anyone who comes near. Jack Leaving Daniel. Daniel diving through the stargate from the exploding ship. The glider sequence. Jack's comments about the space shuttle (Priceless!) and the Grenade scenes, Teal'c and Bra'tac saying good by, and of course Space Monkey! I guess if you put Serpent before any episode I love it! Grasp, Lair, Song,
and looking forward to Serpent's Venom this Friday...but not the T-Man being hurt!

Yeah, i agree jsc great rivalry between Bratac and Jack, a great season starter!

kel sha,

was amused at Apophis' face expression while the 2 rockets come toward his ship and he was amused about that ..

would be interesting if an russian general would make the same face expression in his base .. :) :)

the speeches between Bra'tac and Jack were quite cool, too.

but sometimes i ask if the jaffa guarding their base / ship haven't learned to target ??

100 % loss @ jaffa site and 0 % loss @ human site ... sometimes quite unreal ..

Hmm, yeah, they were absolutely out numbered, you'd think they'd actually get injured more then just knocked out. It ws pretty obvious that Daniel would be hurt, as obvious it was that he'd recover, though those Jaffa must be incredibly bad shots for three of them to be unable to kill off a injured man armed with a with a small gun!. I love the rivalry between the two leaders Jack and Bra'tac. The scene at the end with Daniel and Jack, and before on the ship are great, but then so's 'bite them on the hand'!

An all-action end to a cliffhanger, good start to the series. I don't hold that it's better then the S2 two one, though. I've only seen 'Out of Mind', but that just looks more mystery then action. I don't really know.

I love how much contempt Bra'tac puts into the word "human". jsc, you're so right, any scene between Jack and Bra'tac is always a hoot.

Yes, Shiloh, I have always felt it was because the Tauri were legendary and here they were sort of lost souls in the Galaxy. But then I sure he felt a little jealousy about Teal'c being so loyal to Jack and the tauri, and that Teal'c who he trained was under Jack's command and I am sure the old warrior felt very competitive with Jack for many reasons...Bra'tac had a plan for fighting against Apophis and here comes Jack with no plan and bests him at a lot of things. One of the things that Made Serpent's Grasp/Lair so funny was the competitiveness between them. They were in this "now we die" situation and here they were showing off their skills and weapons like little boys.....ah  ....do.

LOL. Sure hope we see Bratac again soon in Season 5. (avoiding spoilers).

I liked this episode until they had to leave Daniel behind. I thought it was a little strange that no one talked about him anymore after that. They left him to die and that's it ? To me, it seemed they didn't care at all. Jack kept saying that the day was 'not bad'. Couldn't they be a little more upset about their friend ?

:(
