Sam getting her first command. I think she did a great job. I enjoyed this episode. Loved the actor who played Tonani.
I think it also showed the respect that the writers have towards the other races. Tonani was shown to be intelligent, wise, and extremely patient as well as being able to accept the differences in people that a lot of others lack.

Loved the scene in the storage room. (Paraphrasing)

Daniel: We have to find Jack.
Tonani: (looking around) He's not in here.

i think in this episode they make us remember how the 1st americans (and not only the 1st) steal land and resources from the american natives .. this episode was very good !!

Umm. before you completely revile the Europeans and place the early native american culture on a pedistal you might realize that historically neither group was totally evil or totally good. more like alot of gray. I,too, admire the native american culture but only certain native american cultures and certain select parts. Just like you can't describe European culture by the Britains, only or the Italians, only; you must view the Native Americans in the same way...Algonicans,Aztec,Apache...they were very different from one another. One reason the early New England settlers where able to gain a foothold was due to the tribe warfare going on at the time...there was always an indian tribe availible to help them against another. Many settlers and explorers did come for base reasons (Gold, etc) but may came looking for a new start..one they seemed to not be able to find in the relatively civilizated, safe old world (at least to their mindset). Where I live some of the most successful organizations (wealthly and popular) are run by the Ten tribes council in Oklahoma (they hold the corner on bingo parlors as well as controling many oil rich lands). I am not saying that there were not injustices done against the Indian's but not every European was part of them. In any group of societies like the native americans or Europeans you can find examples of the worst (Aztecs and human sacrifice). Once again,I do admire the best of the Native american culture and take pride in saying that as an AMERICAN I can point to a native culture that can be idealized by these native AMERICANS

hi'ya !

sorry, forget to say that i do not mean every european ..

i think there are much people who don't agree what their gouvernments do -- i know that there a much who are helping ...

Sorry...didn't mean to sound preachy....
Personally,I agree that the native americans as a historical whole had a lot of injustices (even atrocities) done against them (trail of tears a very good example, one of the most disgraceful events the United States perpetrated). I hope to read more of your posts, especially from the AmerInd angle :)

It'a horrible fact of life that we do tend to lump everyone into categories ... whole nations are blamed for what a few who were in power did. It's difficult to read the first few pages of "We Will Fight No More Forever" and not lump anyone who is not Native American into that category of people you love to hate. We have the option of seeing how things happened in hind sight. I know when I read things I get angry, but I haven't placed myself in the time frame when all of this was happening. My mindset would probably have been totally different than it is today. I'm not excusing what they did. It angers me that we were so close minded, but it was a growing process and still is.

I pick and chose those things that fit my needs and desires. As far as the Native Americans are concerned I pick the basic belief that we do have to live in harmony with the Earth ... that what we do today, affects everyone tomorrow. It's simplistic, but sometimes the simple things really are best.

Cheers,

if we don't live more nature-oriented we will destroy ourselves. so i hope that more people will think about this topic and help changing the existing system (more profite - less nature).
