Ah! Be still my aching heart (yeah, yeah, I know it's the wrong quote...but it seems to fit for this episode!). What can I say? Poor Kawalsky! The Goa'uld...the angst...that poor guy!!! I loved this episode for SO many reasons. My favourite scenes are when Kawalsky's on that rotating hamster-wheel thing and he's so upset because of what's happening to him...it'd be every SGC member's worst nightmare - becoming your own enemy. And then there's the scene between Kawalsky and Jack. "If you don't make it...can I have your stereo?" Gotta love Jack ;-)
So come on...favourite scenes from The Enemy Within...

I've thought (many a time!) about the possibility of having a permanent AU Kawalsky staying in our universe - then I realised it would be a bad idea. As much as I LOVE the Kawalsky character, it just wouldn't work. There are quite a few reasons too.
Firstly, there would be too much of a Kawalsky/Jack link there, which would most likely pull Jack away from the rest of the team. (After all, if your former best friend rose from the dead, wouldn't you want to spend all your time with him?) Then there's the whole jealously thing that would most likely go on with Sam and Daniel - they want Jack's attention (despite the fact they'd never admit it). Although, then again...he *is* Kawalsky and it *would* be great to have him around more often. Maybe they could pull him in from an AU and have him working off-world with the Tok'ra for some reason...or the Tollans - no wait. Jack would never let his best friend have *that* bad an assignment. ;-)

You know I gotta wonder if Kawalsky would be considered Jack's best friend. In CotGs, he didn't even know that Jack had a son. I know in EW, Kawalsky talks about the hockey thing. Do you suppose it's just one of those little continuity errors or were they friends as far as their lives in the military were concerned?

Well, there *is* the whole thing about Kawalsky not knowing about Jack's son - but remember in The Gamekeeper how we learn that Kawalsky served with Jack previously? Well, it could be possible that they were best friends then, lost contact (then Jack got married, had a kid, etc) then came the Abydos mission, then CotG when they may have picked up their friendship again. From the general "vibe" of their relationship, it's commonly assumed that Jack and Kawalsky are good friends.
Oooooo...idea! Kawalsky's first name is Charles (as in Charlie)...and Jack's son's name was Charlie - coincidence or did Jack name his son after his former best friend (whom he lost contact with)?

I'm a sucker for "what ifs" ^_^

It's possible, I guess. <G> However (always one of those where I'm concerned), if they were such good friends who had lost contact between the mission shown in Gamekeeper and the original mission to Abydos, why didn't they keep going with it? We don't know for sure what happened in Jack's life after that original mission except that when he came back, Sarah was gone. But I can't help but wonder if they were such good friends, why wait until CofGs to renew that friendship? Why not do it after the original mission?

I think this whole "friends" questions raises the one about the life of the sg-1 team outside of gate travel. For one, what the heck does Teal'c get up to for relaxation/fun. I am not sure where he lives but I guess it is at SGC. What do the others do I wonder. Perhaps Jack really only has his friends as those he is working with hence the on/off possibility with Kawalasky? I think they should try and introduce a little more of the "outside SGC" life of the main characters. To do this they of course need something going on outside the base that would warrant the SG-1 attention, any suggestions?

Teal'c's quarters have been shown to be at the SGC. I'm assuming here that in Cold Lazarus when Teal'c enters a small room with a TV and VCR in it, that it is his quarters and they have started to furnish it for him. Could be wrong. <G> But it has been shown in a couple of episodes with a bed and lots of candles. He's usually meditating at the foot of the bed.
I'm thinking that off of work friendships do take place and just aren't shown (like we all know that there are rest rooms in the mountain, but we never get to see them). It's possible that these things are happening - like beer and pool at O'Malley's occasionally. Also in Cold Lazarus, we know that O'Neill offered to show Teal'c around outside. I'm thinking that they've done that on occasion too.

Cheers,

I honestly don't think so. I imagine it was destroyed since it was the shutting down of the wormhole that accomplished that task.
