Sometimes people have to do distasteful things in order to help. ECT isn't pretty, but can be used effectively to treat some personality disorders. When inserting a chest tube, no anesthetic is given for good reason and it's usually just as painful as the injury that necessitated the procedure be done.
The episode reinforced, to me, how far Teal'c was willing to go to fight for his beliefs and his determination to free his people. It would take a very strong person to give up his family for that and contrary to what some at the top believed, showed his loyalty to the SGC and how much they could trust him.

Cheers,

I would hope that hurting children doesn't go over big with anyone. As a parent, I can empathize. Also, as a parent, I can see how one could allow almost anything in order to help the child - even if it means causing more pain if the ultimate goal is to relieve the existing pain.

I know there had to be a less painful way to get him back to normal. I mean Apophis was able to change him one way, they could have changed him back.

We don't know what Apophis did to brainwash him in the first place. He could have used pain stimulation to do it - just use the Ribbon Device on him a couple of times or something even worse than that that doesn't show outside physical scars.
Deprogramming is a procedure that takes a great deal of time and energy and is not always successful. In fact, the majority of the people who used to make a living at it don't do so any longer (those people who used to kidnap your children, family, and friends from cults and then deprogram them). One of the things that was found out was that even though it appeared to be successful, there were serious relapses and other serious emotional complications.

We have to accept that sometimes we have to do things that will cause pain or allow that pain to happen. It isn't pretty and it isn't something a parent will take lightly, and we don't have to like it. But in accepting that it happens is one way taking the power that it has over us away from it.

Cheers,

Heh, i liked this episode particularly how Dray'Auc and Frotac parts :)
Bra'tac i soo cool agreed?

Yeah I liked Bra'tac from the very first. He's a good foil for Jack when they meet and it's helped explain Teal'c a great deal.

Cheers,

Heh, yeah
When Jack and BRatac meet for the very first time, it is funny :) How they flip each other up....

kel sha,

how could they know if it was "brainwashin'" that Rya'c turned onto the side of Apophis ? perhaps hi liked the system of the goa'uld more much than the tau'ri's ?!
perhaps he take much care than teal'c of him (but that's no difficulty 'cos there only presense is needed ..) ..

i hate people who want to know better than you what is good for you and what is not good for you ..

kree sha

P.S.: i like the char Bra'tac too and the actor plays his role very good !!
