As the intro to the four parter that made up the first season end, this was really well done. Chosing Daniel as the one to be affected was brilliant, I think, since he is the one that has the most 'passion' out of all the rest.
I'm not one much on Alternate Universe kinds of stories, but I enjoyed the concept of this one and the way they had all the characters changing hats.

Cheers,

Four parter? Didn't realise that. I am surprised that there is only you mything who has posted anything about this ep. Visiting other sites this ep is quite popular.
I thought it was cool especially when Harriman is shooting a gun :)

Major Carter

Cool episode, but what I hate is that Carter and Jack are always an item in the alternate realities...why not make a story where they can't stand each other...

Alright! Anyone with a snake in their head, raise their hands!

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but i thought it better than creating a new one on the same subject.

Just wondered why they never go back and use that mirror thingy to either a) bo see what happened to the earth after the events witnessed by Daniel. or 2) go visit some other alternate realities, as that would be pretty cool!

I think that there're many problems with Goa'uld in this reality to deal with and not so much SG teams for this job. ;)

well at first they couldn't go back cause daniel had the controller and it was left behind, it's what sam went to go get when she got caught by the jaffa and blown up(and without the controller the only reality they could go to was the one daniel did...and i'd think twice about going to a world that most likely got trashed by the goa'uld)...then after season 3 hammond ordered it destroyed...never saw it destroyed but...

Hmm having read a synopsis of that episode, I must have missed it, so maybe when I see it, it'll answer my alternate reality questions!

i could be suffering from selective memory, or maybe just wishful thinking but i seem to remember towards the end of the eps hammond saying he wants the mirror destroyed so they would have no more visitors.
any one who watches, please let me know if i'm wrong

You arecorrect skydiver, It was in Point of View before the team went to the alternate reality that Hammond said it should be destroyed. (We only have te writers word for it though...Hey, if Apophis can come back six zillion times....)

I dont recall if this episode was after they uncovered the conspiricy at area 51 (the alt. sg teams,Col. Maybourne) or not. If it was before then it is always possible the powers to be could have recinded Hammonds commands and stashed it elsewhere. (fodder for a future alt univ episode; I love those types of adventures).

HI! Stephen! Did I tell you I loved the last Hammond shower scene you posted here (in other humans section)! Loved the revenge on Maybourne! I thought that Coffeecup was going to split after she read that one!

Season 2 Secrets was start of conspiracy arc followed by Touchstone (were the weather device was stollen), POV was season 3 and we are in There but For the Grace season 1.

Just for clarity!

so at this point in the general storyline of the show, the beta gate's probably been at nellis only a month or two...so all the conspiracy stuff is still in its infancy

and the bad thing with them keeping the mirror, without the controls it only goes to and from the last place it was set to...it'd be like a gate with no dhd that only opened to or from one planet...so unless they have a controller, it's useless

I don't seethem building a controller or going back to the alternate reality that exploded abound Dr. Carter in There But For The Grace of God.

Conspiracies

Conspiracies? fantastic! I saw 'Secrets' two weeks ago, and I'd love to see the potential for conspiracy shown there developed. Can't wait!
Oh, yeah, I loved 'There but for..'. I actually like altenate universe ones, as stories like that hold potential beyond just creating relationships, although Daniel's reaction to Sam and Jack kissing was pretty funny.
Can anyone tell me what 'There but for the Grace of God' is actually meant to mean. I've read something like it as a bible quote in a book, but I cannot decide what it means.

Well...the original quote was by John Bradford refering to a line of criminals being led to their execution. "There but for the grace of God goes John Bradford." Usually quoted as "There but for the Grace of God go I." Basically, it means that that "it" could have happened to me but thanks to the intervention of God it didn't happen. Or more secularly. "Just luck it wasn't me,instead of them."
