Carter mentions that, and I quote, "Wormhole physics dictate that you exit
at the same velocity that you entered."
Remember in Children of the Gods when everyone goes through the Gate the
first time, they are almost spat out of the Gate on Chulak and go tumbling
down the stairs to the platform. My query is that since they all casually
walked into the wormhole from the SGC and if you exit with the same
velocity you enter, why did this occur? Any one care to comment?

Cheers,

I am guessing it is an error in the children of the Gods. A bit like how no one seems to have ice crystals on them anymore! I also wonder if things go through at the same speed then won't air molecules also go through yet there seem to be very few biological precautions when sg-1 come back although they would have no way of knowing if there was sometihng contagious in the air. (The MALP could not carry equipment that advanced). The SG-1 are also very very likely to carry infectious diseases to all the planets they see. I am sure quite a lot of the "primative places" are going to get new types of flu but I digress :)

"Wormhole physics dictate that you exit
at the same velocity that you entered."
This could still be true in Children Of The Gods and the eariler Stargate episodes. It's just that, as they are still getting used to the physical stress and strain that Gate travel puts on the body that they are overwhelmed by the sensations they are feeling on the other side of the Gate.

They could still be exiting the wormhole at the same speed as they entered, however they are put off-balance. It may look as though they are being "thrown" from the wormhole, however this is probably mistaken and instead they are "stumbling".

There's not really a lot they could do about airborne diseases on the other side of the Stargate. However, when they send the MALP through, they can determine any visible signs of threat (including plagues, diseases, etc). When they open the Gate, isn't there some rule about it being a "one way tunnel"? So the only way that the air particles can get through is when a team has dialed in and is coming back...and when they're doing that, it's not open for very long, so it minimises the threat.
As for the SG teams spreading disease to the "primitives", generally this is minimised as all the people going off-world have to go through a complete medical examination before they can leave. So if there's a sign of disease, they won't be given permission to go off-world.

Basically, they're minimalising the threat in the best way they can without spending another couple of million dollars on the program ^_^

Basic problem with disease though, is the fact that even though we've all been immunized or are immune in other ways, there is always a chance we're going to give something to people who have never had the disease before. We all carry bacteria that can lay dormant for a long time and then blossom into a full blown attack of something. It's how 'opportunistic' diseases occur. You might carry a pneumonia bug around in your system and never feel the effects until you have a major trauma to your system and then it comes to the forefront. Remember in One False Step, Frazier says that she's surprised that what has happened to the people there hasn't happened before? Even though it wasn't a bug that was causing the problem, it could very well have been.

About that velocity thing, It probably depends on what part of the galaxy they are traveling to. See, if you follow close enough, you can see obviously that the wormhole has to pass by planets, comets, satelites, and suns. Well in this, if you pass many, it could cause fluctuations in the speed in which they travel due to different types of gravity. The Stargate tries it's best to make a safe travel through a dangerous space. So when you think about it, you really do come out the same velocity but also with whatever fluctuations you ran into along the way.
Did that make any sense at all?

has any one noiced that when they come out they're not frosty any more was up with that? and the matter going thiiught out the metter strem depend on whatever you can jump into it but come out standing!

i might be canadian but i have a point (sometimes)

I think the reason why they were frosty was because the Gate hadn't been used in thousands of years. And now that it's been warmed up, it's fine

I think sean's idea is much better than that it bored all the characters having to make themselves look frosty for every episode :)
perhaps it is the characters who have got "warmed up" :)

"Wormhole physics dictate that you exit at the same velocity that you entered."

The qoute does not mean that the relative velocity will be the same. Because when entering a worhole the persons velocity includes the velocity of the Earth, the sun etc. Also when they exit the wormhole the planet they reach will have a vastly different velocity to that of the Earth. Therefore the Ancients who built the stargate network must have designed them in such away as to take into account this affect.

Remember the statement above is only true as far as we currrently know, it may be that the Ancients had a totally different theory of wormholes that did not include the same ideas as ours.
