Spoilers for Enigma:
What's his name explained to Sam that they had once shared some technology with their neighboring planet. Instead of using the technology for what it was intended, they turned it into a weapon and that was what was causing the destruction of their world as well as the world of the people they gave the technology to.

I honestly don't blame them. Give the right person a milk carton and they'll make a weapon out of it.

Cheers,

I believe the fact that the SG teams still use earth weaponry help to keep the the whole story "believable" if you know what I mean. If they all started running round shooting fancy laser weaponry etc then it would look like a naff Star Trek episode :p
Using Earth weaponry helps keep SG`s feet on the ground.

Champion :)

I think that thing about using earth tech is a good point, i think there are probably quite a few people who watch sg-1 and don't really see it as sci-fi but more as action. Running around with machine guns probably keeps them happy.

Plus there is already an industry for the manufacture of additional arms and ammuntion for MP5 and M-16's and not much in the way of a company on earth that makes Staff weapon reloads (except maybe GE). Both the US and Britain (I believe) have a military policy of using equipment manufactured by companys under their control so as not to be at the mercy of foreign powers if they declared war and then cut them off from the supply of vital parts (not that either country is aways great as adhere that that policy 100% of the time).

Hehe perhaps that is why we seem to not have a problem with supplying arms to just about anyone, i guess if they ever tried to attack us we could just stop supplying them ... or not .. ekk that annoys me.
anyway...

we are going to need some far more advanced weapons if we are ever going to beat the goa'uld. We really need something a little better than a knife to get through those defense shields.

Yes it was Narim. Keeping it level is what it does. I'm sure the SGC keeps the Gun industry alive and kicking. Although getting their technology would be great.
