We've been discussing this in the Technical forum under 7th Chevron and I thought it might be time to start it's own thread.

Here's the concept: There are thousands (read lots) of Jaffa running around all with little Goa'uld babies incubating inside. So where do all these Goa'uld go when they hatch out and take over a host?

Comments.

Cheers,

Good plan mything.

Perhaps goa'uld are not all as power mongering and evil as the ones we have met. (we know they are not all, the tok'ra). so perhaps there are more civilia goa'uld who run feudal (like suggested) system where they act as sort of medievial lords did in britain with servents looking after them and really not doing very much but not always fighting.

Although they do not seem to make technology somewhere along the line there have got to be some intelligent goa'uld or jaffa who train people to use star ships, modify technology to suit them etc.

There are other goa'uld who have certain taks like the one who was after Jolinar and got into the sgc.

Some thoughts anyway

Aris Boch states that there are thousands of Goa'uld that Teal'C has not heard of.... does that help?

That is true, i remember that. But are they all power military leaders i wonder or are they civilians?

Well, I agree with me. <G> I think there are possibly thousands of them living on worlds somewhere in what could be termed civilian capacity. Like padders said, some are probably technicians and the like. Remember in The Enemy Within when Kennedy is questioning Teal'c about the technology and he says that the Jaffa are not allowed to know about Goa'uld magic? I would imagine that any of the replicating of technological items are handled by those that have been Goa'uld'd. I get the feeling that they wouldn't trust someone who wasn't to work with those items. It would lessen the effect of the 'magic' if the Jaffa knew how they worked.

Cheers,

Well, I agree with me.

Now there's a surprise :)

I do agree though. I think an SG-1 mission to a civilian based planet would be good for two reasons:

1) tech research
2) some nice little ethical dilemas about killing goa'uld that are civilians.

sounds like fun to me.

Lotsa Goa'ulds?

Exactly how long do they live anyhow? Ra certainly survived4 a long time... And it seems that the queens give birth to plenty, maybe not often tho. Also, they seem to take a long time maturing. Hmmm....maybe some rove the galaxy-nomadic lifestyle albeit in ships? A quandry, they started out in the water, how did their culture evolve? Did they just jump straight into the Unas? Oh, Daniel relly shpould think about this. This hads given me lots of ideas. Bye!

No, FIRST OF ALL, we steal a new one for Teal'c. Then don't forget it takes seven years for these little babies to incubate. After that, they've got to locate a nasty, power hungry stylemonger to take over. I'm telling you, Washington, D.C. and Hollywierd are prime locations for Goa'uld transfers.

kel sha !

that wouldn't be easy texane 'cos none of our goa'ulds want to be implantated into the host of the traitor teal'c ..

so i think u must capture an host but i don't think he'll live in teal'c's host the way u like ..

i think a freely chosen tok'ra or so would be better for teal'c ... but it's only a hint :)

kree sha

in seth jacob says there are 1000's of goa'uld and dozens of system lords so considering how many babies a queen hatches(hathy looked like there were at least 100 of them swimming around and we don't know how long she can go between litters) but we gotta assume the jaffa mortality rate is fairly high. in cotg it only looked like there were a dozen or so new goa'uld...

I totally agree with padders et,al;
I think there must be loads of them out there and possibly a civilan race, and you're rright, the team landing on such a planet, would make a very intresting story!

(baby's name is Jaculine, Daneille.)

Seven year incubation

Texane,

You say the larvae take seven years to incubate - what is the reference for that?

We know that from birth they need to mature into immature larvae before becoming prim'ta (sp!), and then some time within the jaffa before entering the full Goa'uld host. For example, Bra'tac is 130+. Or do Jaffa keep getting "refreshed" with new larva?

from an epy in the 2nd season, I think (I'm not good at remembering the names of the epys - sorry).

Does anyone know what eppy exactly? I know in 1969 Teal'c says that eventually Junior would take him over, but he doesn't give a date. This has been bugging me forever.

I agree, there's got to be lots of symbiotes who come to maturity, take a host, and don't have the ambition or gumption to try to become a system lord. Like certain characters in certain Season 4 episodes who are goa'ulds in the employ of system lords.

Plus, a whole lot of jaffa die all the time, which is a good thing because otherwise we'd be up to our necks in goa'ulds. Even the system lords kill their own kind with abandon, when they send Jaffa into battle. Not much species loyalty there. Kinda like their own version of zero-population growth.

Shiloh - interesting point.

I was going to mention the death rate of Jaffa. The system lords are always fighting amongst themselves, and that must use up a large number of Jaffa/pim'ta. But perhaps an equal number are in successful alliances in which their lives are not in danger?

Anyway, the point is, the Goa'uld do not seem to have any familial care for their relatives, the Jaffa larvae. They are always sending them off to die in unusual ways at the hands of OTHER Goa'uld, or SGC!

But, thinking about it, is that any different from other races, sending their "sons" off to battle to defend their freedom in major conflicts. Probably not.
