small epy intro

Chiana's people come looking for her brother Nerri. Chiana had unsuccessfully tried to negotiate for food. Returning to the ship, she thought Aeryn would be angry with her, but Aeryn and Rygel were strangely complacent and docile. They came on board with a Nebari named Varla, who later also "mind cleansed" D'Argo and Crighton. Only Pilot was not affected, and he was put in a large colar. Varlan wanted to know where Chiana and her brother were. Before they were sent out into the galaxy, they were both given "routine exams." In actuality, they were injected with a poison deadly to all other species surounding their homeworld. Their intent was for the infected Nebari to go out and infect the other races so the Nebari could take over. But Varla's plan backfired . . .

Actually, Nerri and Chiana were injected with "a contagion" not a poison per-se, making them carriers. The contagion was designed to be spread through carnal contact and make those infected pliable to outside control, ie the Nebari. :alienooh: The Nebari's contagion was designed to make all those infected fall under their control at a specified time, which even Varla didn't know about.

Turns out Chiana and her brother were given a cure for the contagion, so they are no longer carriers, but Nerri started an underground movement, a rebellion against the government who infected him. While Chi thought Nerri was dead, he was just hiding from her, to protect her.

A lot happens in this eppy between Chi and John as well as between Chi and the audience. We find out a lot about her that she's been hiding, as well as a lot about the Nebari as a people. No wonder Chiana's nonconformity is so dangerous to them. :alienooh:

I hated seeing John's eyeballs pulled out of their sockets (which I've been assured by an eye doctor is impossible to do), but the process of the temporary mental cleansing is interesting. Chi said it was chemically induced, but no mere injection is enough to accomplish the task. I love the Elizabethan collar they use to immobilize the recipients. Very gothic and quite frightening to see. :disturbed

And Surfy is right... John's surf-ese is dead on, dude. Totally!

Makes me wonder if this is where Claudia developed her use of the word 'dude.' ;):D

A little scary . . . "mind cleansing" is an idea that has shown up on other scifi shows as a use for "rehabilitating" criminals (i.e. Babylon 5, Outer Limits). Kind of makes you wonder . . . :errrr:

Huhh??

To try it out yourself or on criminals? :errrr: :disturbed You're starting to worry me, Ushi... :iiworry:

It would be really bad if Ushi had already been mind cleansed and he didn't remember it . . . :iiworry:

hehe.

I'm so glad.
I'm only listening to pop and I'm collecting Flowers..

:D

"They're coming to take me away, ha ha. They're coming to take me away, ho ho. He he, ha ha, to the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats . . . they're coming to take me away, HA HA! " :rolly2:

I really enjoyed this episode. (I find myself saying that a lot when critiquing 'Scape episodes. :) )

The scenes with John and Chiana were great! John's kind of taken over the role of big brother in Nerri absence. He's always watching out for her, giving her sage words of advice. It's nice to see that side of Crichton. Chi's really the only one that pays any attention to his ramblings. They really have a good relationship. One that I hope to see played up in other episodes.

Crichton talking in surfer lingo. Now there's something I hadn't expected. :D I don't know why he chose that as his 'mind cleansing' accent, but I guess it worked. Like when he tried the Aussie accent on for size though, Ben sounded so strange with it it was cute. Funny too.

I'm glad Chaina finally got to wack that trelk, Varla. I was cheering her on all the way.

I loved it that Rygle was the only other person who wasn't mind cleansed. He and Crichton are great together. The Odd Couple of the Uncharted Territories.

I think my favorite line in this ep. had to be:
"No, Pilot. I'm here to tell you that the Nebari are a bunch of geeks! And their da*n mind-cleansing doesn't work on Momma Crichtons baby boy! John Crichton! Astronaut! Master of the universe! Ah!"

Question From This Episode:

Does John ever get that metal thing out of his eyes?

Makes me wonder if this is where Claudia developed her use of the word 'dude.'

How about in 'Out of their minds' when they were talking like the others..

Anyhow, goos question, did they get rid of the metal thingy from his eye.. its not the kinda thing you'd forget, im sure..

Hehehe, just watched this one again while taking a break from revision (revision sucks) and i liked it when Rygel was tryin to trick Citchon into thinking he was still cleansed..

And Critchon says that only Himself.. Rugel and piolt arent nebari 'pupets'..

To which Rygel vehemenantly exclaimed:

'Im nobody's puppet'

Thought that was great...
