Spoilers for The Curse and Crossroads and some thoughts on Anise/Freya.

In Crossroads when the Goa'uld merged with the host (whose name I can't remember right now - Methos from Highlander) we are led to believe by the conversations with the host that all is on the up and up with the Goa'uld - that it really did change sides. We find out later that that wasn't true.

In The Curse, we don't know when Sarah was Goa'ulded, but speculation could be that it was before the lab explosion and that Osiris actually caused it to cover up that he had taken Sarah as a host (or something like that).

If the above speculation is what happened, then it's quite obvious (to me anyway) that a Goa'uld can control the thoughts and actions of the host and that the host isn't in control of him/herself even when he is the one interacting with others.

Freya kept telling everyone that Anise wasn't really trying to put anyone from the SGC in danger and some were taking her word on it, because she was the host and should know what her larvae was up to.

In the episodes, The Tok'ra, they try to convince SG-1 that the hosts are willing and happy to be Tok'ra and even let the hosts talk to Jack about it. But how much of that was really a happy and contented host and how much of that was the larvae making the host say that they were happy and contented?

Opinions as I quit before I start to ramble. <G>

Cheers,

There are many episodes where we can see the host isn't talking. Hathor is one of them. so yes, it is possible for the Goa'uld to control the host. We've seen it many times. Crossroads is another example

That's not what I meant, Sean. It appears that the symbiote can control the Hosts speech, reactions, etc. So when it is the host who is actually speaking, we can't believe that what they are saying are actually their true thoughts.

Cheers,

okay, heres, my take on it...
the symbiote (sp), is in control, it can subjecate the human host, as in most cases that we have seen where the host is pushed deep underground for the surpremeacy of the gaou'ld in charge.

saying that it only stands to reason that the gaou'ld has complete control over the hosts actions, even possiblely while the host is unaware.

I can't think of an example off hand...must get out the tapes and review them...
but on the other hand, if the host is weak, it is totally submerged, ah...example, daniel and the kid...shoot, call myself a sg fan...on the ship, where the young boy that daniel knew on abydos...was Aphophis son...(hope you know what i am talking about) tried to kill daniel, even with the human host in control. what was his name?????

Ska'ra/Klorel. <G>

I agree that the symbiote controls the host's actions and such. However, when SG-1 is supposedly talking to the host - as in the case of the guy in Crossroads - and he's telling everyone that everything is hunky dory and that the symbiote has changed sides, everyone believes him because he's the host that's talking and not the symbiote. Later we find that the symbiote did not change sides and plans on deceiving everyone so that he can act as a spy for the Goa'uld against the Tok'ra. Based on that, how much can we believe of the host (say Freya) when she is saying that Anise is really a nice person and has the best interests of the SGC in mind?

Similarly in The Curse, if Sarah was taken over by the symbiote before the lab accident that killed Daniel's professor and destroyed the lab and the Osiris jar then all the time that she is talking to Daniel she's actually being controlled by the symbiote. I'm pretty sure that this is the case since in rewatching the episode there are subtle hints - her searching for the medallion, her pumping Daniel for information, etc.

Cheers,

I agree totally MythingLink. We can not trust the host any more than we can trust the goa'uld if the goa'uld controls the host. It is only playing on SG-1 "emotions" when they get Freya to talk (or even Jacob for that matter).

We only have the hosts' word that the symbiote is playing fair and letting the host speak as in Jacob's case. I agree with you two that it is complicated. I think they only do the head nodding and double voice thing to keep their enemies and allies off guard. We really don't know what is going on and it gets more complicated with each season. Good for the writers!
