Mulder is floating in the netherworld, somewhere between life and death, as his spirit undergoes a Navajo healing ceremony, and is visited by the spirits of his father and Deep Throat. Scully tries to find the complete Defense department files, on UFO's from Roswell to the present, which are on an encryted DAT, but finds herself up against her superiors.

Later, the well-manicured man, part of an international conspiracy, warns her, that her life is in danger. Agent Krycek, assassinates her sister, Melissa, by mistake when he break's into Scully's apartment.

Skinner has obtained the DAT and brings it to Scully, but she believes he's attempting to kill her, and it ends with a standoff, with the two of them pointind guns at each other.
