This was a good one. Chiana finds a disk that shows Aeryn as one of the three peacekeepers who killed the pilot prior to the one that is now aboard Moya. When the present Pilot finds out, angry doesn't quite get you there.

In this episode, you find out more about Aeryn's life as a peacekeeper, and about her most important lover (so far). You find out where the Pilots come from, and how they are mated with the Leviathons. And Aeryn and John become closer.

This is one of my favorites. Chiana put it best when she said (approximately), "what do you think she was doing? picking flowers while all the other peacekeepers were doing the nasty stuff?" It reminded everyone that, before she was involuntarily made a part of the crew, Aeryn was a military peacekeeper. Different from the rest.

I liked it because the episode also reminded you how far she has come. She may look like a human, but her character is an alien. A military peacekeeper officer, and an alien. It is difficult for her to take the "reasonable," think it through, "peace"ful approach. That is not how she was born or bread her entire life. This episode reminds you how difficult it is for her, day by day, to learn an entirely new life that does not revolve around orders and weapons. And that she is doing pretty well at it.

This is one of the few epys that tell us anything about Pilot. He is usually so kind, at most he gets exasperated. And yet, we find that he can become as angry as anyone, including with himself.

It must have been difficult every day to know he "killed" the former Pilot to get to see the stars . . . and, of course, Moya would know.

I so totally agree with you there. And Claudia did such an outstanding job with this one... Ben put it best when he said that she is magical when she's able to emote so much in a scene with a muppet. :crying: "Take the journey with me." Man, she rocked!

I was surprised that Rygel was the one most angered by the early revelation. It was typical of him, however, to take the matter to Pilot. Yet again letting someone else take revenge on his behalf. Too bad he never thinks these actions through. Instead of just killing Aeryn, Pilot first shuts down Moya, refusing to move another metra until Aeryn leaves, then completely disconnects himself from the ship, leaving them all at risk, even Moya herself. :(

I loved finding out more about Pilot and his race. His guilt about Moya's first pilot is palpable, even for an anamatronic character, but I think that's mostly due to Lani's voice work.

And, damn, Aeryn has good taste in men! Velorek was quite a hotty!

Her conversation with John about him and her relationship with him was very important and showed an incredible amount of courage. She is such a different person now than she was. I liked being able to see more of her life in the Pk ranks before her contamination.

Always remember, she may be an alien, but her relationships back then tended to be somewhat "painful." Something to think about.
