What is there to be ashamed of ?
Corzafa,
Your question isn't anything to be ashamed of. It is a genuine question.
I suppose I could start with what Gatecon is...
Gatecon a convention that is run by a company formed by four mere fans of the show. Gatecon boasts the largest gathering of stars, directors, producers, co-stars and crew ever seen at a stargate SG-1 convention. In fact, we had 31 guests in total.
The next convention will run for 3 and a half days, and will be held in Vancouver, Canada in September 2001.
Apart from the obvious talks and Panels, the main aim of the convention (other than giving the attendee's a chance to meet the guests) is raising money for our Favorite Charity... The 'Make a Wish Foundation'. In 2000, we raised over US$14,000 for their cause.
The charity auction in 2001 will comprise solely of authentic costumes and props donated by Stargate Productions.
The other events that happen over the 3 days are a cocktail part, Banquest, and hopefully this year, a fancy dress ball, all of which are attended by the special guests.
We also have an art show, fan-fic competition, giveaways, and special demonstrations. The demonstrations in 2000 were from David Sinclair, props master for Stargate SG-1, who brought along litterally thousands of dollars worth of authentic props for us to look at. We also had Tom Gianazzo, the military advisor from Stargate SG-1 talking to the attendee's and giving away various items. We hope to have both David and Tom back next year as well.
And lastly, I suppose, the chance to meet and talk to fellow fans from around the world.
Sorry this was so long winded, but I hope it gives you a general idea of Gatecon.
