Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar may actually sign up to be a part of the real Scooby Doo gang.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gellar and her real life boyfriend Freddie Prinze Jr. have been approached and are in talks to take on the roles of Daphne and Freddie, respectively.


Previously, rumors had been flying that Jennifer Love Hewitt was in the running for the Daphne role, which may have been, but nothing came of that. In addition, as previously reported, though not as yet officially confirmed, Christina Ricci is said to be a strong contender for the role of Velma. Rumors still continue that suggest that Mike Myers may be up for the role of Shaggy, though it would seem to be questionable casting with the rest of the cast being closer in age to the cartoon originals.


Raja Gosnell (Never Been Kissed, Home Alone 3) will direct the coming film which just recently was given the green light. The film will start production in February and shoot in Australia.

Interesting. I'm not a big fan of cartoons made into real life movies, though, except the X-men. Now that was good so maybe there's hope for Scooby yet.

I hope they do a good job. Heaven knows that they have a weight on their shoulders with trying to make a real life Scooby. I wouldn't want to be the movie company that screwed up such a large pop culture icon like Scooby-doo. _

Looks as though Sarah Michelle Gellar may be playing 'Daphne' after all. Scooby Doo is going to be computer generated as far as I know, but the guy who provided the voice has since died so I don't know how they are going to get over that obstacle.

there's a first cast piccy of them in the inquirer, it's got S.M.G playing daphne, F.P.jr playing fred blond an all,
scream star matthew lillard as shaggy, and freaks and geeks co-star linda cardellini as velma. i really hope they make a good job of this cause i grew up with scooby, and i just loved it...peachy

I like Scooby Doo too. My kids absolutely love it as well and have got three of their videos to prove it. Needless to say if i get the chance i would love to go and see the 'new one' when it comes out.

And Rowan Atkinson as "Monda...who???" We know what to expect there, if its a bad guy he'll be very hammy like Blackadder, or a good guy a complete clutz like Mr Bean...should be good fun..
