Max and I just received our copies of the video and picture CD. We think they are great even if the video is too short! :D
We have just one question. What was the music that was used for the two videos that Allan put together for the convention? We had hoped that they would be included on the video but as they are not we would be interested in buying the music if someone can tell us the title and artist.
Thanks.

Hi Lynx,

I have been literally innundated with that same question about the music. Both are Australian Artists that have limited release elsewhere.

The Opening Video (the one where I embarassed everyone) was 'Absolutely Everybody' by Vanessa Amorosi. The album name is 'The Power'.

The second one (SG-1 video clip) was 'Mascara' by Killing Heidi. I can't remember the album name.

I couldn't put either of these on the video because of Copyright restrictions, but I have made contact with Vanessa's agents (just to touch base), and I want to get full permission to re-use that same peice of music (albeit different) for next year.

And in regards to the video being short. There were a number of factors against us, Time being one, but the most important one being the Audio Visual company that filmed the convention absolutely screwed up (the two static camera's, not the MGM roaming camera... I don't want confusion there) . The entire recording quality was appauling, and out of the 10 and a half hours of raw footage, we managed to scrape together 90 minutes of ok looking video.

Allan, I hate to hear that the company caused so many video problems. You guys worked so hard.

What is MGM doing with the roaming camera footage?

Denise

Denise,

MGM plan to make a Stargate SG-1 documentary, and the word is, that part of the documentary will be about the fan conventions that are held for Stargate. I'm not sure of the progress of the documentary, but I do beleive it will be within the next six months or so, and it should accompany any video releases of Stargate SG-1 (and DVD) next year.

For us organisers, we are so proud to be included in such a high profile and quality documentary, and we can't wait to see the finished product.

Welcome Leapy!

Hi, Leapy,

Welcome to the forum. You have asked a very good guestion.
Ninty minutes is a very short amount of tape to edit when all expected more. I don't think that company will be back!

It is always nice to welcome a posting member! Post away! Enjoy the site!

Gatecon,
I am glad that MGM is making a Stargate SG-1 Documentary. Will it be on T.V. or where will it be released?

It may be possible that we will see the same company back, but maybe not to the full extent. I wrote a rather lengthy and unpleasant (for them) email the other week outlining all of the problems I had with the equipment, services, and anything else.

I was suprised by the response. Instead of saying they didn't want to deal with us again, they actually had an emergency meeting to discuss one thing... Gatecon.

I'm pretty much assured that the problems won't happen again, although we are waiting on word about a number of things which means in the end the AV company might not get all of our business. And that is mainly in the two sections I was not pleased with the most.... Filming and lighting.

i've looked around for the gatecon 2000 video on the net, but with no luck. can someone please point me in the right direction?

I enjoyed the video!

Hi,

I enjoyed my video, even though the quality and lighting was off at times. But it's great to have as a momento! Good work! And I do hope next year's video will be better.

StarTech,

The online store at Gatecon is running a bit behind while we sort out our e-commerce act.

The video and CD are available to order from Sue Seeley... sueseeley@sprintmail.com

The video is avaliable in both NTSC and PAL.

Apologies about the store taking so long... but that just seems to be my life at the moment.

Of videos and things...

Welcome, Leapy [sorry I was slow on the reply]. Allan, considering what you had to deal with [and just *how* messed up the A/V company was - your post was *most* interesting reading. :{ ] the vid is great!

You folks did a great job working with what you had and I'm impressed that the A/V people responded the way they did.

Thanks Gatecon for your reply to our question. We shall keep an eye out for the music. I saw the opening and closing ceremonies at the olympics and thought I heard the same piece of music.

Just to reiterate we are really happy to have the video as a momento of a great convention. We look forward to next year's being even better.

Thanks!

video and CD

it was GREAT WONDERFUL I loved it. You all did a great job. i was sad that is was so short :-( But I understand if ya don't have the footage you can't pull it out of thin air. My parents are fans of Stargate SG-1 also and when they saw the video that were amazed. They told me 'it must have been so exciting, it look like so much fun.' And it was. Thanks again for the memories.

Just when you thought there was no more.....

I am currently looking at taking some more clips (ones that didn't make it onto the video) and putting them on the web site. This may take a little while... I'm still trying to figure out the best format to do it in, and checking if i'm able to do streaming media on the severs here.

Stay tuned for more news on this.

thanks for explaining why that music/picture montage couldn't be put on the Gatecon 2000 tape ... I was really looking forward to it ... sent shivers up my back ... very very very cool!!!!!!!!

just about had a heart attack when I heard myself ask a question ... thanks for that!

btw ... did something happen to the members area at the Gatecon site? a majority of the members contact area is missing?

Members Area

I noticed that people were being shown on the contact list even if they hadn't put contact details in there.

Now, a person is only shown if that have something to show. It's not that they have been removed, but simply that they don't have anything to share with us.

Hopefully that answers your question.

And how cool that we got one of your questions on the video. Something worth keeping to show the grand-kids. :)

"nothing to share" ???

... Allen, what exactly are the requirements to meet this classification ... like ICQ et. al.?

Personally I liked it the way it was before. Could go down the list and have some really great memories triggered, and following up with web sites, etc.. Just my 2 cents worth.

Lordy ... my present family thinks I've gone loopy, don't think we'll be bringing up my 2 seconds of glory with any future grand kids ... LOL ... well ... unless Gatecon 2001 involves an up close and personal encounter with RDA ... THAT would be life altering ... LOL.

re: 'Nothing to Share' ...

With the way 'GateCon2001' is moving along, we're all planning on wonderful things happening.

Now ... no one can promise who will be there at this time, but with all the wonderful comments RDA made on his live chart on Lycos [we said he wanted to come next year] i, for one, will always hold out hope. :}
