I have never read any of Heinlein's books. Where do you think would be a good place to start? Remember my aversion to fantasy if he writes these types of books as well :)

Heinlein has numerous anthologies out there if you are looking for short stories, novellas or that sort of thing. One I really liked was The Past Through Tomorrow: a collection of the future history stories.

As for novels, Stranger in a Strange Land is classic and good to start off with, IMHO. Or The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, or maybe Starship Troopers or Expanded Universe or any of the future history series or The Green Hills of Earth and perhaps Waldo or Time Enough For Love or The Cat that Walked Through Walls or...

Oh my, I feel like a kid offering a bowl of different candies to another kid who has only tasted turnips.
"Here, try this one! Oooh, this one is good but this is better. Eat faster, you have not tasted this yet!

I share your aversion to fantasy, so of course it is all science fiction.:)

Where to start

If you are still looking for a heinlein book to start off with then stranger in a strange land is brilliant but Time enough for love (i know, really bad title) is brilliant and really gives you a feel for how he writes and his view of the universe.
