For a lot of people there is some similarity between the two major characters from The Sentinel, Jim Ellison and Blair Sandburg; and Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1.

Both Jim and Jack are 'alpha' type males who have taken a relatively naive academic on as a sidekick. Jim Ellison was an Army Ranger before joining the Cascade Police Force and, of course, Jack is Special Forces. Blair is studying for his doctorate in Anthropology and Daniel already has his.

Several people have seen these two shows as natural cross-overs for fan fiction as well using either of the above characters to introduce the others. Blair knows of Daniel or Jim and Jack knew each other when Jim was in the military.

Comparisons

What can I say, MythingLink. I agree completely. The major difference I see is that one character was allowed to grow in a stable, allbeit chaotic, environment [Blair] where we're not really sure by canon, but by behaviour, that Daniel didn't have this opportunity.

Thus one is introverted and the other extroverted, but in so many ways twins.

BTW: Are we the only one's here? If so, I'm not going to do the 'Hi! I'm your mod' intro. :}

I honestly don't know if we're the only two here. ;)

Need to do some advertising and get this place hopping.

I'm checking with Padders. I know we have www.talkstargate.com/ and talk.babylon5.com/ [which isn't currently hooked up, evidently, but is in the process of]. Padders is checking into www.talkthesentinel.com/

I've found some subs have gone up for me when I put a little blurb in my personal sig line directing people to the talkstargate addy.

That works for me as well. ;)

In the meantime, you mentioned the similarities between Blair and Daniel. How about between Jack and Jim (besides that their first names start with 'J' ;)).

Both special forces, both Alpha males, both have 'adopted' a little brother that's kind of a science geek, both are still in hazardous jobs saving people, both are great to look at ...

Comparisons, part duex

I know. When I first ran across 'TS' that was the thing that struck me first. The major difference I see is Jim is much more 'touchy-feeley' in an open sense and is okay with that than Jack. But: Jack is still in and has spent over 20 years in where Jim was a 'Short Man' and have been in the civ sector for at least 5 years that we know of.

I do admit, thought, there's a lot of similarities between the storeroom scene in "Need" and the garage scene in "Blind Man's Bluff". Both showed two, caring guys who were worried about their partners.

Jim was the more 'unconcerned' of the two in regards to spectators around him - he was totally focused on Blair and the people around were fellow cops.

Jack was more 'uncomfortable';e' about those around, I feel. One: he was protecting Daniel, who some folks on the base still looked down on as not being capable and two: I think he, himself, was concerned about being seen as 'soft' on the civilian.

You know I think I might have to disagree on Jack being concerned about what others might think regards his friendship for Daniel. I get the impression that he really doesn't care. He's more concerned with doing what he sees as morally and ethically right most times and in this case, what is going to help Daniel even if it means confessing something that is distasteful to him.

Jim, on the other hand, I always got the feeling that he was concerned that people thought he was getting too close to Blair, a science geek and civilian.

Attention!!

As of today's listing on the Sci-Fi channel's programing list, 'The Sentinel' has been removed from the programming grid.

The Sci-Fi channel can be reached at 1 - 212 - 413 -5000 and ask for programming or e-mail at program@www.scifi.com.

Let them know we are *not* happy with this very abrupt and sudden turn of events.

there are some REALLY cool
ts/sg1 x-over fanfics out there.

i just love them!

in one fanfic, blair and daniel turned
out to be brothers.

i just love x-overs...

:D :D :D

Just started watching Sentinel a few weeks ago. Have to agree to the similarities between Jim/Jack and Blair/Daniel. I think Jim is more conscious of the way his relationship with Blair is seen than Jack is with Daniel.

Really been enjoying the show. I like seeing how the friendship between Jim and Blair has grown.

Comparisons... First? J&J

Thee seems to be a good precentage of folks out there on this thread who watch both SG-1 and TS. I'd like to see how people percieve the different characters between the shows [also, as I'm a mod on several of the SG-1 lists, I find this facinating times two].

Let's start with:

Com parisons between Jim Ellison and Jack O'Neill [things of the same ilk]

For example: Both are alpha males working in career fields that are aimed at protecting their fellow man.

Any others?

How about neither one is really into this scientist stuff. They don't care for the scientific lingo. Though Jim is better at it than Jack.

J&J COmparisons

That works. Another point: Neither are comfortable with incident that doesn't have a concrete explination - such as something that may be vaugely metaphysical. {Although, I do admit, Jim copes better toward the end of the series and Jack, I think, just overloads on the 'weird factor].}

I have only seen the first season or so of episodes for Sentinel but I would guess that Jim might be coping better because he has to deal with the unusual being part of him. Jack is only seeing it from the outside.

As to comparing Blair and DAniel I would say they are both scientific types who are passionate about their work, to the point where they can get lost in it to the exclusion of everything else.
