I don’t have a lot of time for people who buy up DVDs, sit on them and then try and sell them on at extortionate prices when they are deleted. They don’t even have the decency to remove the cellophane and actually watch the film.

I have been tracking the price of Son of Frankenstein/Ghost of Frankenstein for quite a while and it’s been sitting around the $90 mark.
Well, here’s the good news folks: Universal are re-releasing all their monster films as double features(Region 1)…Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man…the lot.

Great for us punters.

And to the profiteers out there….I say Tough! You ain’t got my money and you ain’t getting it neither!

There. I feel much better now. :D

You tell 'em Foxbat! Sometimes I wish I had the capital and cahones to buy something purely to make a profit on it. I'd more than likely pick the next Chia pet or something and end up losing my shirt, as it were.

I agree, Foxbat. But what girdles me even more is region-coding, macrovision, staggered release dates, great old films that remain lost or buried, limited DVD runs (like "This Island Earth") etc... I guess I hate the major studios. (Which is NOT to say that they USED to be great!). 1980 seems to be the turning point, I feel. Good films today are few and far between.

Ah, but there's good folk out there too. I bought an original VHS of "Crack In The World" some time ago off eBay...it was some one-off, totally limited-edition studio run that some dude had picked up at a sci-fi convention. He picked up 2 copies, and sold me one for about $20 bux!? Great film! :p

I totally agree. I remember I couldn't wait for the Region 2 release of the Dune miniseries so bought it on Region 1 - only to find it was 14:9 and in stereo. I later discovered that the Region 2 release would be 16:9 and in 5.1

It was only after a bit of research that I discovered that it was all to do with licence sales to the disc producers (I presume 14:9 stereo would be a cheaper licence than 16:9 5.1) I'd prefer to see a worldwide/same format release for all films but, as we know, it's all about squeezing that last cent out of the buying public - so it ain't gonna happen.....unfortunately.

As for Macrovision: I took my first DVD player to bits (Pioneer DVL-909) got out my soldering iron and disabled it. It was supposed to improve the picture quality but I never noticed it. Primarily Macrovision is there to prevent copying but nowadays it's so easy to disable (many retailers will do it for you) in most machines that it's pointless.

Good to hear you picked up a bargain Aeolus - it always makes the constant searching feel worthwhile :)

Here's an update if anybody's interested. amazon.com are now taking pre-orders for the Frankenstein Legacy (Frankenstein/Bride of/Son of/ Ghost of/House of).

That's 5 films for just under $23 (and two of those films rank amongst the world's finest horror movies!....the rest aren't bad either)
I've got mine on order. Have you got yours??
Life is sweet! :D

Goddamn, I'm in!!! Excellent!!

"Bride..." remains one of the most unique films in cinematic history, I'm convinced! :p "Beer good!" ha ha...

Now that @BAYLOR has resurrected this thread, I’ll make an embarrassing confession.

A few years back I decided to buy the Wolfman legacy collection (Wolfman, Werewolf Of London, Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman and She-Wolf Of London). I’d ordered it in time for my brother’s birthday but it was only when it arrived that I realised that I’d ordered the Spanish version. I couldn’t be bothered sending it back so I just got him something else instead.

So, if any Spanish speaker would like a copy of El Hombre Lobo let me know :D

Sooner or later , I was bound to find this thread.;)

Universal did several Mummy films after wards thye entertaining but a newly as good as the 1932 film with Karloff . I do however havesoft spot for Abbott and Costello meet the Mummy and the other sends up that they did of all the universal Monster films .

I did l like the Hammmer remake of the film with Christopher Lee , 1958 one hammer best films

And of corse the Universal Mummy film with Brandon Fraser which shades of Raiders of the Lost Ark and yes I love The Mummy Returns and even The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor which is underrated.

The Tom cruise 2017 Mummy film has it's moments and potential. But didn't quite work.

Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy was the first of the mummy films I have seen.

Actually, there was a comedic Universal horror film before Abbott and Costello---The Invisible Woman.

Tends to be overlooked as part of the series.

At the very end of Abbott and Costello Meets Frankenstein Both were in a boat when the invisible man shows up and, If im not mistaken Vincent Price voiced him in that particular cameo:unsure::)

Even though thye were monsters , you couldn't help but feel a certain sympathy for the Monsters.
