The Sphinx Gate Reports from Michael Shanks:

After a post left by Michael Shanks (Dr Daniel Jackson) in early January for the members of MSOOF (Michael Shanks Official Online Fans) hinting that season five may be his last, the fan community spoke out for the show and it's future. The original comments were:

"I think most of you should know that this year we will be filming what will probably be the last season of Stargate SG-1 on the television. But as you are also probably aware, there is the likelihood of a feature film of the series. Don't ask me too many questions about this as you may know more than I do on the subject, but you should know that there will NOT likely be a sixth or seventh year of the series."

In response to the speed which the news has travelled throughout the net community via Forums and Newsgroup the actor posted the following update (Jan 15th) on the MSOOF Message Forum:

"HEY GANG, PLEASE INFORM FELLOW FANS TO CHILL REGARDING MY STATEMENT CONCERNING THE FUTURE OF SG-1. IT WAS NOT AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT, RATHER A CASUAL INSIDER PERSPECTIVE, OR "OFF THE CUFF" TIDBIT BASED ON SOME THINGS I WAS TOLD. IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE CLEAR ON INFORMATION BEFORE ONE "TAKES THE BALL AND RUNS WITH IT", CONCERNING WHAT MANY PEOPLE FELT WAS "BAD NEWS". IN ACTUALITY, I WAS TRYING TO BRING TO LIGHT THE "POSITIVE" INFORMATION OF THE "POSSIBILITY" OF A FEATURE FILM OF THE SERIES, NOT CREATE THE NOTION THAT THE END OF THE SERIES WAS A SURE THING. THE SHOW CONTINUES TO BE VERY, VERY SUCCESSFUL WORLDWIDE AND THEIR IS NO REASON WHATSOEVER THAT IT SHOULD NOT CONTINUE IN ONE FORM OR OTHER, STATUS QUO OR NOT. AGAIN, MY STATEMENT WAS JUST A WAY OF KEEPING FANS HERE "IN THE LOOP" AS I HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF NOT DOING IN THE PAST, SO I APOLOGIZE IF PEOPLE TOOK IT THE WRONG WAY. NO DECISON HAS BEEN MADE "OFFICIALLY", NOR DO I KNOW ANY MORE THAN OUR PRODUCERS DO, SO THAT IS WHY I CHOSE TO USE WORDS LIKE "POSSIBLY". I WAS SIMPLY BEING CONVERSATIONAL.

AS FOR THE NOTION THAT I SAID THIS WITH SOME HIDDEN AGENDA REGARDING CONTRACTS OR DISSATISFACTION WITH MY FAMILY OF STARGATE SG-1, THAT SPECULATION IS FLAT OUT RUBBISH. IN THE FUTURE I WILL TRY TO BE LESS CANDID, AND MORE SPECIFIC WITH WHAT SAY SO AS NOT TO ALARM OR "GET ANYBODY'S KNICKERS IN A KNOT."

NEVER ANY HARD FEELINGS,
WITH CONTINUED LOVE AND ADMIRATION

MICHAEL SHANKS

Smile, campers. All is well.

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay~ I'm glad he posted that! o.k. and to al I take back what I said about James Spader in the second movie instead of Michael:( *crys* I just think Michael Shanks is more kawaii with longer hair...I'm not fond of the short hair look in the show but ah me who am I to argue? so to all I hope they include all the actors from the show including (especially is more like it) General Hammond, Teal'c and Janet^_^ (Those are the lesser charactures I suppose) AND IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE ACTORS FROM THE SHOW FOR JACKSON, O'NIELL, AND SAM I WILL PERSNALLY BREAK DOWN THEIR DOORS MYSELF DEMANDING A RE-FILM! UNFAIR TO FANS I DEMAND A RE-FILM!

Aaahhh. And I thought that 'gentle, vulnerable' thing was just an act. He sounded so apologetic and meek. And a little ... wary. ;)

I certainly do agree with the "a little wary" part! I think someone tapped him on the shoulder and told him he was out of line. He specifically stated there would not be a Season 6 - he doesn't have the authority to report that.

good news :) don't want any told you so's from people though :)

i think what we can all take from this is how incredibly easy it is to start a literal worldwide panic by one stray comment.

maybe a lesson to us ALL that pretty much anything we read on the net should be taken with a grain of salt until you can verify it through several sources.

and a nod of sympathy to poor ms...lord only know how much heck he caught over this...it'd sure make me not want to talk to anyone.

Now....Good Omens (lit.)

Just expressing my feelings here.
Thank you very much to Mr Shanks.
Popular, you say? World wide?, nice thing to know.
Your right, of course Skydiver, that kind of rumor spreading around must NOT of been a good thing for the actor responsible. Why shouldn't he be,as he put it, conversational. The whole panic was unintended on his part, but he has a right to say what he's heard.

hey, i'm all for free speech. and short of using up his or anyone's vocabulary of four letter words anyone's free to speak their mind.
i just think sometimes you need to look at what the consequences of speaking up may be.
i'm sure he didn't intend for things to get out of hand, and i'm sure it was incredibly frustrating to have one stray comment blown all out of proportion.
it's just...and i don't want to start a horrendous debate here but...well it's fine to say 'i hate green beans" (any one see west wing a couple of weeks ago?) but if you're the advisor to the president and you say 'he hates green beans' to the governor of the state that grows 80% of the national green bean crop...well it just might get you in a little hot water.

Also true.
West Wing, if I'm getting it right, has only just started where I am. Pointless piece of information there.

ok. the basics is that in one eps one of the presidents' people tells someone the prez doesn't like green beans, which he doesn't. in fact he doesn't care for veggies at all...anyway, it's an innocent statement until it's heard by someone from washington state i think which grows a lot of green beans and the prez sorta just backhandedly insulted a whole state, and that whole state's electorial votes...and an innocent statement all of a sudden gets blown all out of proportion and almost becomes an incident...all because of one innocent little remark.

I agree about the rumor thing. I watched the president as he was sworn in today, and taped about 5 hours of the parade, etc. I was watching ABC. Their commentators were negative to the point of being rude (Barbara Walters told the Bush family their new house was small and not particularly special). The ABC press kept on saying nothing would get done during the first 2 YEARS of this presidency. And yet, if you have been reading and listening to what the OPPOSING members of congress have been actually saying after meetings with Bush during this last week, they have ALL said they were surprised at the end of the meetings, and now expect much more bipartisan agreement. And yet, the PRESS doesn't seem to be satisfied to do anything other than further rumors.

A tough election, yes. But do you really believe that the Gore supporters are willing to have their elected officials do nothing but be obstructionist for two years? I think they want their elected officials to WORK, just like we all do. But the press continue to further rumors that our government, which WE pay for every paycheck, will refuse to work for two years.

This must be why remote controls were made. I supported Bush, but if my elected officials don't work together to get done what they were elected for, I'll vote them out next election, including considering voting for their opponents (you'd think the press would learn from their polling fiasco). RUMORS!!! HOW DESTRUCTIVE AND USELESS THEY CAN BE!!! (and my elected officials, no matter what side they are on, had better start working).
