Shanks Clears Up Statement About Season 6

The Sphinx Gate Reports from Michael Shanks:

After a post left by Michael Shanks (Dr Daniel Jackson) in early January for the members of MSOOF (Michael Shanks Official Online Fans) hinting that season five may be his last, the fan community spoke out for the show and it's future. The original comments were:

"I think most of you should know that this year we will be filming what will probably be the last season of Stargate SG-1 on the television. But as you are also probably aware, there is the likelihood of a feature film of the series. Don't ask me too many questions about this as you may know more than I do on the subject, but you should know that there will NOT likely be a sixth or seventh year of the series."

In response to the speed which the news has travelled throughout the net community via Forums and Newsgroup the actor posted the following update (Jan 15th) on the MSOOF Message Forum:

"HEY GANG, PLEASE INFORM FELLOW FANS TO CHILL REGARDING MY STATEMENT CONCERNING THE FUTURE OF SG-1. IT WAS NOT AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT, RATHER A CASUAL INSIDER PERSPECTIVE, OR "OFF THE CUFF" TIDBIT BASED ON SOME THINGS I WAS TOLD. IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE CLEAR ON INFORMATION BEFORE ONE "TAKES THE BALL AND RUNS WITH IT", CONCERNING WHAT MANY PEOPLE FELT WAS "BAD NEWS". IN ACTUALITY, I WAS TRYING TO BRING TO LIGHT THE "POSITIVE" INFORMATION OF THE "POSSIBILITY" OF A FEATURE FILM OF THE SERIES, NOT CREATE THE NOTION THAT THE END OF THE SERIES WAS A SURE THING. THE SHOW CONTINUES TO BE VERY, VERY SUCCESSFUL WORLDWIDE AND THEIR IS NO REASON WHATSOEVER THAT IT SHOULD NOT CONTINUE IN ONE FORM OR OTHER, STATUS QUO OR NOT. AGAIN, MY STATEMENT WAS JUST A WAY OF KEEPING FANS HERE "IN THE LOOP" AS I HAVE BEEN ACCUSED OF NOT DOING IN THE PAST, SO I APOLOGIZE IF PEOPLE TOOK IT THE WRONG WAY. NO DECISON HAS BEEN MADE "OFFICIALLY", NOR DO I KNOW ANY MORE THAN OUR PRODUCERS DO, SO THAT IS WHY I CHOSE TO USE WORDS LIKE "POSSIBLY". I WAS SIMPLY BEING CONVERSATIONAL.

AS FOR THE NOTION THAT I SAID THIS WITH SOME HIDDEN AGENDA REGARDING CONTRACTS OR DISSATISFACTION WITH MY FAMILY OF STARGATE SG-1, THAT SPECULATION IS FLAT OUT RUBBISH. IN THE FUTURE I WILL TRY TO BE LESS CANDID, AND MORE SPECIFIC WITH WHAT SAY SO AS NOT TO ALARM OR "GET ANYBODY'S KNICKERS IN A KNOT."

The MSOOF Message

It was a fake ! The show's publicist stated that MS has never posted there. The info is posted in a message at the spoilergate list at yahoogroups. Apparently there is someone posing as RDA, at a certain chat room, who is also a fake, of course.

Not wishing to spark off a long drawn out discussion here but am I correct, ColJ, in interpreting your message to mean that the post that went to the MSOOF list is fake? I know that the message sparked off a lot of discussion on various lists, not least MSOOF, but Gatewatcher who deals with the messageboard on the site now run by RHG confirmed with Michael Shanks himself that the message originated with him.

Hope you do not mind the question, it is just that I know the original posting and the subsequent follow up spawned an awful lot of response on the internet and thought the issue resolved to everyones satisfaction.

Rather than clear anything up, those statements have got me, for one, completely confused.

In plain English, and I can't make it any clearer then this; a person or persons have been impersonating RDA in a chat room and MS on a message board.

I really didn't want to have to go all through this again..
Yes Kim is the publisist for SG1..I have spoken and met with her on several occasions.

But I have to reiterate again, I had confirmation by Michael himself, that it was him on the board, and it came from his own, private e mail..Both myself and Gatewater had this from Michael.

Whilst I have the greatest respect for Kim, but she is a publisist, and they are the last people I would trust.
They have a difficult job to do, and yes I can understand her airing on the side of caution, esp with some of the happenings.
But, having said that, if it helps I will ask Michael again personally next week, but I had hoped that it had all died down by now.
Michael has posted on the board several times over the years that his fan club has been running, not often and to be honest, I would not blame him if he never posted again, but he also has his own section where only he can get into, by his own password, where no one else can post.

Also, Michael is an independant person, so he does what he wants, and is it not up to him, whether he tells the studio, what he does or doesn't do.
I am not saying that Michael, lied or anything like that, but maybe he was airing on the side of caution as well, esp after his last postings, which btw, RDA said exactly the same thing in a magazine article, and I notice that no one has commented on that.

People believe what they want to, I have found in this job, but as long as some know the truth, then maybe it is all worthwhile.

This storyline is happening on two fronts. Sarah Michelle Gellar became "independent" when the negotiations started to keep "Buffy" at the WB.

The last word she used for herself about the matter was "humiliated."

I wonder if actors/resses think before they speak sometimes. Probably something we should all do more of.

I still stand by my two suggestions for actors to replace Michael Shanks, if necessary (don't shoot the messenger; save the show).
