A quick question for the knowleged

Hi,
I must have missed the episode when the second Stargate was found...where
and when was it found and what is the story regarding the second Stargate.

Sorry if it is a stupid question but the TV station where I live has a tendancy to air
the episodes in a strange order, different days or not at all when ever they feel like it,
which sometimes mixes up the whole storyline for me.

The second stargate was found in the episode Solitudes in Antartica when Carter and O'Niell were sent there. Jackson discovered they were there because of the tremors of the gate.
SEASON FOUR SPOILER
The alpha stargate was destroyed on thor's ship so they got the beta stargate (the one from Antartica) and now use it

I have another question...where do the stone rings come from when a Goa'uld transports from their ship...are they already somewhere in the pyramids or do they get sent down from the ship, as they just seem to apear from out of nowhere on the ground and in the ship.

It's still the best show on TV though....thanks seand.

The alpha stargate wasn't destroyed when Thors ship crashed into the Pacific. When the Russians where searching for their 'lost' sub they found the gate lying on the ocean floor.

SEASON 2 SPOILER

In "Tok'ra", the rings on the planet take the people from the surface into the underground tunnels. This seems to happen only at one place, ie they have to be stood in the right spot for transport. Presumably the rings have a power source at that point, but I don't think the details of their operation have ever been explained, or where they come from/dissapear to...

It was something that was playing on my mind....wondering where they went and came from but I suppose that if you can only use them at certain specific spots maybe they are just 'THERE' .
It is a great idea though....having those rings to transport you around.

yeah, pretty handy things

The motherships seem to have their own rings on board, but they seem to transport people to specific points on the surface of planets, a couple of examples of this are in the s4 eps "double jeopardy" (SPOILERS)where Cronos' mothership only uses a transport point within the pyramid on the surface, and "Exodus" where there is one point on the surface from which people are "beamed" up to the mothership..END OF SPOILERS.
I vaguely recall some ship-to-ship transports, which have been intercepted by putting another ship inbetween the two transport points, which has the effect of bringing the person being transported onto the ship which intercepts...anyone remember the details of this??

Transport interception

Warning: possible spoiler for some unknown episodes. As such, this spoiler notice is relatively useless.

As I recall there has only been one actual occasion on which a transport has been intercepted between two ships. This occured in an episode I am afraid I can remember nothing about, but involved some pretty fancy flying in a Goa'uld shuttle. Basically you have to get the shuttle directly in the way of the energy beam used to transport the person, and intercept it using the shuttle's rings. There was also another episode in which this manouevre was attempted, but it's obviously very tricky because they didn't manage to pull it off again. This was the episode where Teal'c is captured and tortured, and those two nasty Goa'uld whose names I can't remember again (of course) were thinking of getting together and forming a big alliance that would have been particularly dangerous for Earth and the Tok'ra.

It appears, however, that it is not necessary to have rings on both ends of the transport. For example, Teal'c and O'Neill float themselves off into space when their experimental death-glider thingy goes haywire, and Jacob and Carter retrieve them using the rings of a Goa'uld shuttle -- so far as I know, there're no rings in space

From this, we could asssume that you only need one set of rings for anytransport, as the rings evidently beam themselves to the location of the transportee, if receiving, or to the location the transportee is going to if they are sending. This would seem to solve the problem rather neatly.

it's my theory that a matter stream can only be established between two sets of rings. they usually come from the ceiling, but sometimes they can come from underground (the Tok'ra) or the floor (Tangent, s4 "the serpent's venom" {the goa'uld transport shuttle}). in tangent, the rings dematerialized O'Neill and Teal'c, then intercepted its own matter stream.
I think the rings have an internal power supply, and they can be activated different ways. one is the wrist thing that goa'uld have on the back of their hand devices(osiris, season 4 "the curse"), and on the back of the hands of some jaffa (STARGATE movie).

I always wondered about those rings myself. Now that I think about it a bit, it's possible that maybe the rings transport themselves. 'Cause when they go back underground again, for example, there's no depressed dirt where the rings sink in (at least none that I can remember). So maybe there's some kind of machinery that contains the rings, and it teleports them up, then the rings teleport the person, and then they get ported back again. Just a theory.

So the use of the rings in "Seth" is going to cause problems then, where both in the tunnel and upstairs in the house the rings just appear "through" solid matter.

Perhaps they are not actually solid matter until they stop. Certainly in at least one episode ("The Curse"), gunfire ricochets from the rings. They rings just appear at the end of the matter stream in a controlled way.

Possibility: there are two operations: fixed and unfixed.

In the "fixed" variety, no matter where the end points are, the transport always works, e.g. how they destroy Ra in the film, between motherships in "Within the Serpents Grasp" etc. This appears to be the most common type of ring transport.

In the unfixed version, somehow the rings can go to unspecified areas but these are always NEAR the other end which IS fixed: e.g. "Serpent's Venom", "Tangent" (also onto Jacob's transport ship) and indeed in "Children of the Gods" when Apophis/Skaara etc. are dropped at the gate on Chulak before escaping. In both these cases the "other" end is a pretty fixed distance below a death-glider or cargo ship.
