Is there any music you've been listening to that you feel captures the essence of the characters or the show?

Just call me a curious cat, Renee. . .

So now I'll answer my own question.

I've been listening to Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings (yes, it's a classical piece) and it has such a wonderful angsty feeling to it. Just perfect for those quiet moments of internal torment.

Keeping with the classical theme, Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 has a nice romantic feel to it, for those rare shippy times. If you're not a shipper, avoid this one. (Please don't pelt me with flying veggies if you're a noromo.)

Barber's Adagio for Strings......now THERE'S a great piece of music!

Just like the allegretto from Beethoven's 7th Symphony. (actually, thinking about it made me go and put it on). Talk about angsty. Would be great in the background during the battle scenes when the SGC finally kicks Goa'uld butt for good. (But that would probably be the end of the series so I'm happy to listen to it now and not on Stargate)

What about Grieg's Funeral March? That was one of the first pieces I played in public in an ensemble (along with Gabrieli's Sonata Pian e Forte) and I still love it. A funeral march suitable for any snakehead.

Music

For some reason, Arron Copeland's 'Fanfare for the Common Man' fits the overall 'feel' of 'Stargate', the SGC and it's mission for me.

Oh, I was wondering when someone would ask that one. Well, I'm afraid I know nothing of classical music, but there are some kinds of songs that remind me of Stargate. These are usually either sad or particularly dramatic things that get me thinking specifically of Stargate.

Music

Not all of Stargate is classics for me. 'Fanfare' seems to sum up the entire venue, but each season seems to have it's own 'theme' and each episode it's own melody.

for me, 1st. Season was discovery, 2nd expansion, 3rd exploration within and 4th changes. There are many modern pieces that reflect those feelings. Or, maybe less modern for some, things I grew up one.

3rd season could be seen in "Turn, Turn, Turn" by the Byrds, for example. "To everything there, turn, turn turn - there is a season, turn, turn, turn and a time for every purpose under heaven."

Let your thoughts go and see what you come up with. :}

Oh, I might not know the band or song you mean, but that line most definitly fits. I'll have to think about this. SF knowledge, I have a bit of, but not musical.
Rowan, you're right about the seasons having themes, I am curious to see how the series develops beyond 'expansion', as those Sky-less English like myself are on at the moment.

My Mom loves that song! I think it's a pretty cool song myself. Do you think you could send me a copy of the words for it cause she gets on my nerves when she says she doesn't know the whole song.

Song

Looking for it now. Give me just a bit/.

Don't Limit Yourself

Please, please, please don't limit yourself to classical music. I only mentioned a couple of classical songs because that's what I was in the mood for last week. (This week it's flamenco with some Dave Matthews Band and Chris Isaak for good measure. :)

Thanks for the input so far.

I think everyone's life has a personal soundtrack, and just wanted to see who else's extended to SG-1.

Hope that makes sense to more than me.

Ciao, Renee. . .

Here's me not limiting...

Songs that make me think of SG-1, honestly:

'Larger then Life', Boyband, I know, but it does work for the fighting kind of things.

'Private Emotion' Ricky Martin. The person involved with the music vids uses this, and I think it does capture certain moods.

'Everybody Hurts' - REM, soo sad you can just fit it to SG if you wanted to, I do it so I don't make myself too depressed when I here it. (for those emotional little points in time)

'Stand by Me' - Oasis, and a little thing called teamwork that SG-1 appear to have a thing for.

'Man, I feel like a woman' - Shania Twain, for Sam and Dr Frazier in 'Hathor'.

songs

Some of the songs I connect with SG-1:

"I Volunteer" by Colin Raye: Jack and Daniel 'CotG' and others

"Go The DIstance" by Michael Bolton: Daniel Jackson

"The Bug" by Mary Chapin Carpenter: SG-1

"Goodnight Siagon" by Billy Joel: Jack O'Neill in Spec. Ops

"I'll Take My Chances" by Mary Chapin Carpenter: Sam

That's what comes to mind right now.

What about Radiohead?

I'm a big fan of Radiohead, and their music is *very* cerebral. Just pick a CD, and you're 'there'.

It's odd this, but I think that the original Stargate motion picture theme can be modified to pretty much fit anything in the series...

Movie theme

I agree. I'd like to see MGM release a couple more CD's with music from the last four years. There are some beautiful melodies behind the scenes...

The Soundtracks

I listen to the SG-1 soundtrack pretty often and like it when I hear bits of those themes turning up in later episodes. Don't have the motion picture soundtrack, but I understand the SG-1 soundtrack album is highly derivative from that.

I'm with you, Rowan, in the hope that more CDs will be released. I think the scorers of the series do an excellent job setting the theme for us.

Music

Best we can do as fans is write MGM a lot of letters and hope they listen.

Yeah, I've noticed that they do adapt the theme alot, but sometimes they change it.e.g On my video (explains why I am saying this), the music before the titles of 'Serpents Lair' is very good, but not necessarily a theme adaption.
Anyone know if the soundtrack to the 'Stargate' movie is worth buying or not?
