'Alpha Male' comparisons

Interesting. I wonder if I'm seeing it through my 'Army Colored' glasses. I might have been a bit focused by using those two specific examples rather than looking and picking out examples from the whole series.

Also... 'Need' was early in the 'relationship' and 'Blind Man's Bluff' later. That might have made a bit of difference in the 'comfort zone'.

This is getting interesting, Mything, even if no one else comes here. :} I've been considering trying my hand at some 'TS' fic and this conversation is helping me look at the nuances of each character.

I'd love to read some fan fic from your point of view for Sentinel. It's always interesting to me just how differently or how much the same, we all see the different characters.

I tried writing for Sentinel, but just couldn't get into it the way I can for Stargate. I'm not quite sure what it is that makes it so difficult for me to 'relate' as a writer (ha!) to Jim and Blair. I like both of them a great deal and love the show.

I really like the premise, the senses thing. It doesn't make Jim superhuman, but gives him an edge.

Cheers,

Writing

And the trick I see as a writer is to write about these advantages and not lose the human in the story: not 'change' the human Jim Ellison into another kind of being... as I've seen some TS fics do. There's a certain amount of metaphysics in the show - and I have absolutely problem with it - but some folks take it way out on a limb for plot development.

It's interesting. I've never written slash before 'SG-1'. Never really saw it in any of my other fandoms and now that some are repeating on TV [Like Bab-5] I still don't see it. I'm not sure, being the military person I am, how I can be comfortable with it in Jack and Daniel in the mil environment and not 'get it' with Jim/Blair in a civ situation. I just don't see the two that way, although I read some good slash TS works.

When [not if... it's gotta be when or I've got some folks out there who will kill me] I get my 'zine commitments out of the way, I'm gonna try a 'TS' piece. Might even sub it to a 'zine - there's one out there specifically looking for 'buddy-buddy' stories. :}

You know I've never seen, really seen, the relationship of either Jack/Daniel or Jim/Blair that way at all. Probably the same way I don't see Jack/Sam -- or didn't until TPTB threw it in our faces. ;)

I understand that some writers feel the need to explore relationships between characters in different ways, but I just can't relate to it.

As far as writing for The Sentinel, I tried a little something -- got my beginning -- but couldn't seem to take it any further. I guess I got lost in trying to figure out how Blair would react to what I had started.

I think that's the rub -- trying to get into the head of the character and for Jim and Blair, I just couldn't do it.

Cheers,

Attention!!!

As of today's listing on the Sci-Fi channel's programing list, 'The Sentinel' has been removed from the programming grid.

The Sci-Fi channel can be reached at 1 - 212 - 413 -5000 and ask for programming or e-mail at program@www.scifi.com.

Let them know we are *not* happy with this very abrupt and sudden turn of events.

Writing TS

If you'd like, I could 'beta' your piece to where you've got it and see if I can help. this will also help me understand the fandom a bit better.

Just an offer. No pressure.

I'll see if I can find it here in all the other stuff that's floating around on my hard drive. If I do, you'll get it in the mail. Be prepared. ;)

Cheers,

TS Story

Got it. It's in my 'reading que'. It may be a bit, it's behind two beta's for publication and three I'm writing.

Lordy, I hate this time of year. Everybody wants stuff for MediaWest... :{

Yeah I know. Cokie and I were supposed to do something for Lost, but ran out of time. With building explosions, daughter's visiting, sick time, and other RL stuff neither one of us had the time to get together to get it done.

No hurry on those. They've been sitting on my hard drive for a year. ;)

Cheers,

Stuff

Lost got my first 'in print' humor story and there's a small filler going to her. I've got request for sweveral stories but, interestingly enought, they're slash and I'm having trouble doing it right now... what wants to come out is humor or hard-core angst.

I'm just not much of a 'catagory on demand' writer. <sigh>

Stories

Probably, but I getting requests for my 'Angle of Death' stuff. Rae came right out and said I could 'kill somebody off' if I wanted to.

Guess I'm not feeling that homicidal right now.
