Evangelion Newbie

I've just recently discoved some great anime art, and discovered it is from Neon Genesis: Evangelion.

I have been taken back by some of the artwork, and especialy the characters (especially Rei).

Before I rush out and spend a fortune on buying the DVD's, I was just wondering if anyone would give me their opinion on the series. And what audience type is tageted (Kids, teenagers, adults etc.)

you guys got to visit www.eva2000.com for this stuff, a friend runs it and it is a great site.. he is just moving servers about no so connections might be sporadic but it is "well cool".

Evangelion is excellent ^_^ except for the ending movie which ruined it all for me...
