Stargates in spaceships

I think you hit on a major 'NIT' here Unimarix Zero. I would like to see all those who have been postulating how the Chevrons find a constellation address in the "9th Chevron" thread explain it.

But actually, if think they discussed this in an episode already, the first time they went to a Goa'uld ship. In the first Season cliffhanger "Within the Serpent's Grasp" on Klorels ship. I think it took 'longer to calculate' and could only be done when the ship was not at in hyperdrive. Someone else will have to help me out here.

kel sha,

they said that planets (or other objects) are in movement so the co-ordinates must be re-calculated after a definite amount of time depending on the speed of every object (where a Chappa'ai is located) -- Apophis' cheops war ship travels about 10 times of light speed (is this right ?) and due to this fast movement i think it isn't possible to dial in while movement 'cos while u dial in the co-ordinates have already changed - if an object travels much slower u can re-calculate the new co-ordinates and dial in ...

I think that they said that startgates on board ships could only be used when the ship is on or near to a planet, so that the 7th chevron could be engaged.

As to the speed of Apophis' cheops war ship, I think it would have to go alot faster than 10c.

SPOILER

In Exodous SG-1 were flung 4,000,000 light years from home by the explosion of a star and they were told by JAcob that it would take about 125 years to get home. This corresponds to a speed of about 32000c, if the ship was capable of travelling at high speeds indifinitley. If not then the top speed might be much more.

Ok.

I know for sure that the gate needs to be inside of some sort of massive gravity force (like a sun or planet)

But for the coordanites i have 2 ideas

The first is that the gates are like regular phones where you need somewhere to plug them in (planet or sun) and wherever you plug them in it would have a different phone number

The second is that the gates are like cell phones where you need a battery to hook it up to (gravity force) and wherever there at they have the same number.

I have always assumed the later because it doesn't seem possible to have unique coordanites for every big force of gravity. :D :D :D :alienooh: :alienooh: :alienooh:

:erm: why? how d'you know that?

WHY?

where do you get this whole gravity thing? i thought a stargate relies on a dhd naquedah core or a superconductor for power.

what does gravity have to do with anything?!!

Hello,

How is it to be operated possible stargates in spaceships? Which adress is then assigned?

you can't operate a stargate in a spaceship unless it's in orbit around a planet, because otherwise the point of origin isn't valid. when a stargate reaches a planet, (i'm assuming) the point of origin automatically takes on the attributes and co-ordinates of that planet. we know a stargate can be set up on another planet because >>!!spoiler!!<< in the season 2 premier appophis and klorel escape through the stargate aboard their ha'tac warship as soon as the point of origin re-oriented(because it was over earth). then again, it'd be hard to dial back to that stargate because there's alreadt the alpha stargate at the sgc that picks up wormholes over other stargates( season 1 "solitudes"), and there's already a second stargate! which brings up a question: if there are TWO beta gates, which would a diverted wormhole go to?

Further spoiler: in series 3 finale / 4 opener those intrepid SG-1 types use a gate in earth's orbit, bouncing away to a more distant planet, using earth as point of origin, before coming home again.

More spoiler: the choice of the SGC gate does still seem to be more serendipitous than predictable...
