What have you learnt?

What has Stargate taught you, if anything at all? About others, about yourself?
I myself, take lessons from Daniel in forgiveness, perseverance and faith. I've had my latent interest in astronomy sparked into a fire and learned more than I need to know about first contact.

Sadly enough...

It's taught me that beauty cannot be truly perceived until it is judged purely on its own merits, without reference to any pre-existing standards. That is, I'm trying to work out why I didn't notice how really great Amanda Tapping is when I first saw her...yes, I am jumping in before all you ladies start posting silly comments about Jack and Daniel ;)

1) Never trust a Goa'uld &
2) the Asgard are our friends.

& 3) lots of sarcastic comments from Jack!

kel sha,

1) never trust a government (-> Spirits)

2) enemy can be nearer that u think (-> R'yac in Family)

3) live ur life freely (-> Jack's sarcastic speechs)

4) don't solve every problem with violence (-> Daniel)

and the clearest the want to tell us:

>> BELIEVE IN ALIEN EXISTENCE << ;)

Now that last one I like Geronimo.
Right, this is going to sound odd but....A thought occured to me today. Alien snakes aside, the friends and foes of the human race as they are in 'Stargate' are basically humanoid, if not human. Therefore, appearances can be deciving/deceptive (am not sure which). You may see people as your friends, or at least not a threat, if they seem the same as you, but first impressions or appearance is little against what may exist underneath.
Another thing I think I've learnt is the importance of belief, and how real this can be. In 'Spirits' what were assumed to be the aspects of religion, turned out to be a very real danger. Also, it is the strength of belief that keeps the 'false gods' with such a following of Jaffa and so forth.
It has taught me to look further beyond what is there. OK, so I do that enough anyway, but I never thought that a series could be created which took genre of Sci-Fi in such a way that incorporated the basics of culture and ancient history. And that, btw, is a reason why I like 'Stargate'.

Perhaps a slightly shorter reply than SciFi16, SG has taught me that there is a God (several), and he's not who everyone thinks he is! ;)

Huh, haven't I told you I don't summarise that well?
Ok, I KNOW I go on for too long.

Quality, not Quantity! ;) Besides, there's nothing wrong with rambling on. I do it amazingly often. I can feel it beginning now, so I'm gonna quickly finish what I'm saying 'cos otherwise I'll be here foreva. Altho what I'm saying at the mo is that I ramble, so maybe it would b better to cut myslef off, than to continue, 'cos I would just be rambling on about rambling. Sometimes you can just have enough of a word. I'm not gonna say the r-word again. See? I'm doing the r-thing. And what's the betting you have no idea what I'm trying to say! I certainly don't...

In a lot of sci fi series there are military types travelling around the galaxy imposing their ideas and methods on everybody else. I think one of the best "lessons" from Stargate was summed up by Anteus. "Maybe some day you will learn that your way is not the only way." :)

No D & M here.......

another thing that will always be in my mind is....

if I'm ever too near to the Stargate when it whooshes - I must remember to duck!

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Sorry....

To take things as they come...
to expect the unexpected.....
to be open to new ideas....
to listen to others even if I don't agree with them......

to name a few......

I've learned

1)Don't take anything at face value, always question the obvious, try to think outside the box (Daniel)

2)The very young do not always do as they are told (the Nox), and where would we be if they did.

3)Be open to new experiences, you might learn something and get to have some fun along the way.(all of SG-1)

4)Don't be quick to assign bad motives to people, they may have a perfectly good reason for what they do.(the Tollan, Jolinar)

5)The truth is not always what it appears to be (Teal'c)

6)If you believe it's right, it's worth fighting for, regardless of what you have to give up. (Teal'c)

This and so much more from a SciFi series, who'd of thunk? Well, I'm getting longwinded here, so I'll stop while I'm ahead.

Learning...

I don't know about you lot, but Stargate SG-1 taught me almost all I know about theoretical wormhole physics!

(in case you're interested, the rest came from ST : DS9)

also, in the case of daniel, don't open the ruddy box! who knows what lurks inside!
