Army Of Darkness (1993)

I would recommend this movie as well as Evil Dead 2 to anyone who likes a little slapstick with their fantasy/horror. Bruce Campbell is way out there in almost anything he does, but in these two movies he goes further than anyone else ever has.

Cheers,

I agree with Mythinglink. Those two films are brilliant. th first Evil Dead was just a little bit too gross for me.

The first one was supposed to be straight horror. Done extremely low budget. ;)

It wasn't until they decided to redo it and let Bruce Campbell do his thing that it became comedy/horror and it got the attention of people. BC is remarkable and has such a deadly wit which he brings with him to all of his characters. It makes any project he's in worth watching.

Cheers,

The first one had some funny bits in it too! I think. (its been awhile)
Gotta agree with ya about Bruce Campbell hes great.:D I cant wait to see Jack Of All Trades.

They are great

Amy of darkness is so funny. I get quite miwed up with the evil deads but all of them are great.

Josh Becker has what he calls "The Evil Dead Journal" on his website: http://www.beckerfilms.com/evil.html

It's the journal he kept during the making of the first film and offers a lot of insight into it.

I remember reading in an interview once that Bruce and Sam Raimi had meant for ED to be the scariest horror movie ever made and they were mortified when they went to the first screening and everyone was laughing at it.

I actually know quite a few people who still have nightmares because of the first ED film. :D But ED2 and Army of Darkness are gems... I love 'em.

My son has almost wore out ED2 and AoD. He gets the biggest kick out of watching them. At first I wasn't sure whether to let him watch them. He always got frightened whenever he heard the theme for X-Files pop on the TV and would leave the room. :D

He watched ED once, but hasn't popped that one back in the VCR. I asked him why and he said that it just wasn't as good as the other two.

Cheers,

The 1st one's just too gross. I'd be cool to see the uncut original version thou.

Oooo and can't wait to see the game.

I've been hearing such mixed things about the game. A friend of mine just emailed me to say he played it and the only good thing about it is the texture mapping in the cabin, the employee photo of Ash at the beginning and hearing Bruce's voice! LOL

I think it looks fun though.

And mythinglink... my neice is the same way. She has nightmares if she hears the X-Files theme but can watch just about anything else without blinking... maybe it's just something about the theme which terrifies kids.

LOL

She sure likes Xena... and would probably love the ED films if her mom would let her see them... I plan to actually remedy that if she ever comes to visit me while I'm here in the UK. ;) I don't plan to show her the original one... but I know she'd get a kick out of ED2 & AoD.

BTW - has anyone ever seen the European version of AoD? It's supposedly 30 minutes longer than the US one... with a completely different ending... but I've never seen it and can't find it here for love or money. Would be interested in hearing what happens. :D

I had no idea this thread was here!! AoD is by far my favorite of the ED movies. I like Ash's smart-ass comments, and Bruce just seems much more comfortable in the role or something. In the other movies, he was kinda like a kid playing dress up. In AoD, he's the everyman hero. Plus, I love that ripped shirt :D

What can you say about this flick except CLASSIC. This was so funny, I was expecting a horror and got that and comedy at the same time, which I love. Bruce Campbell is the man, he's so funny with his witty comebacks.

The is a movie that is absolutely impossible to hate, More humorous then horrifying Bruce Campbell is off the wall funny . This film as got it all and I loved the wonderful three stooges bit in the grave yard.

The Starz series with Bruce Campbell reprise his role is a much see.(y)

I really must rewatch AoD.

I saw it a few years back and was mildly disappointed with it. Can't put my finger on exactly why but it just didn't click with me in quite the same way as ED1 and particularly ED2 did.

I feel even more inclined to watch it after spending most of December watching both seasons of "Ash Vs Evil Dead": a great season 1, but fairly lukewarm S2.
