Favourite Discworld characters?

Death of Rats I think is the funniest character simply in concept. My fav book is Hogfather.

I identify with Susan way too much to leave her off the list, but Vetinari and DEATH take the cake. Sybil too, her obssesion with dragons is great. Of all the watchmen... I'm sorry Nobby's the best. I love the way he makes fun of Colon in Jingo.

BandSmurf

I'll go with Death and the witches. Everybody mentions Granny Weatherwax but Nanny Ogg is just as cool. Where would the world be without Scumble?
Never was all that bothered about the city watch, but I love Susan and Mort.
And the Unseen University kinda works like a single element in itself; they all work together but alone, Rincewind isn't as cool.
And Lu-Tze - can't forget him, he was mega funny.

Death, Mort, Vimes, Detritus, Carrot, the Luggage, Rincewind, the wizzards (I don't know why, they just seem so stupid for leaders of a university)...

Oh, okay, I like all of the characters. Even the bad guys. They're just too comical. :D

I think Vetinari is a brilliant brilliant character and wish we could see more of him in the series. Jingo allowed him to really come to the fore for once.
Death and Granny Weatherwax are favourites of mine but the person I like best is Samuel Vimes. What a guy. Compassionate, clever, honest, direct and very capable in holding the hotchpotch Watch together (with the exception of Reg Shoe, of course).

Oh and I just love the Igors. All of them. Always willing to lend a hand.

My favourite book has to be small gods - I'm too much of an atheist not to chuckle at that one! (he's not the messiah.....he's a very naughty boy!:))

favourite character.....probably granny weatherwax. I love the way she uses "headology" to outfox her opponents.
I also like rincewind as he's the guy I most identify with!
when in danger....run your arse off! :D

I am so glad that somebody mentioned Rincewind at last, he is really funny and I don't understand why so few people think he is cool.

Favourites for me are:

Vimes: You have to love a man who acts like Columbo and yet has the fire and spark to carry through on any threats. I loved how he was protrayed in Night Watch, I think that book did a great service to Pratchett's writing skills.

I like Rincewince, it's probably the underdog nature that makes me like him so. Poor guy gets picked on too much.

Death is cool, Granny Weatherwax is brilliant and there's probably half a dozen I'm leaving out at the moment because they're just all wonderful.

I really think Rincewind is a great fantasy creation, I also like Death. I really loved the Cohen and his barbarian pals in Interesting Times as well (one of the stronger Discworld novels IMHO)

Lord Vetinari - he's corrupt, cruel and selfish, but vulnerable at the same time. Makes you want to reform him.

Vetinari is not selfish; Lord Vetinari knows what's best for people and forces people to do what's best for themselves without their knowing it. For instance, if crime shall always be, it will always be organized :D. Vetinari is the greatest leader--be it blue suit politician or dictator--who could ever be in history or in Terry Pratchett's dreams. Selfish--hmph!

Corrupt? Genius con-man.

Cruel? Think about it--when?

Vulnerable? He only seems so because he carries that damned rat around. Remember what Vetinari did in The Truth? He was trained as an assassin.

Favorite Characters:

Vetinari-well?
Vimes-so un-classy he's classy
Lady Sybill-what a lady!
Angua-what a gal!
Nobby-what a...Nobby...?
The Silver Horde-"hur hur hur!"
Detritus-"Now we sing dis stupid song,"
Susan-Imagine me in the front row as Rincewind with potatoes on his mind
Igor-"Yeth?" "How'd you do that?" "It'th a gift."
Buggy Swires-*chuckle* just before I'm kicked in the fruits and veg. and say,"I'm all for equal heights!"
DEATH-one day I shall have curry with him...
Ridcully- Dim but not stupid, I can imagine him in a general's uniform
punctuating his sentences with many a "wot."
Stanley-pin-head turned stamp freak
Mr. Tiddles-what I fear my cat is growing into

What about the Wee Free Men? I love Rincewind, and Susan, but the Mac Nac Feebles make me laugh and cry while completely confusing me.

I love Rincewind, his pattern of thought is just too amusing. Sorry all but anything with the witches just makes me snore and I barely got through the last of their books that I read.

You cant forget Twoflower, he was quite good.
Although my favourites are

Death
Susan Sto Helit
Nanny Ogg
Mustrum Ridcully
Otto Chreik - Hilarious!
